All of the great classics and mainstream movies are theoretically available on DVD, but Netflix doesn't do a good job of replenishing its supply of broken and unreturned DVDs so there are ridiculously long waits even if you decided to keep the DVD option.
I'm thinking of getting rid of Netflix and replacing with Amazon Prime or Hulu. Hulu seems to have a deal with Criterion which has a great store of classic, foreign, and classic foreign films. That's my personal sweet spot.
The dearth of good movies on Netflix is amazing. Just try typing the name of your favorite actor, actress, or director into the search window and see if any movies come up. Netflix has high quality streaming which is important when one has a big tv
