Hunting accidents happens all the time, but this has gotta be the most painful to come across the internet.
Most folks dont realize many things can go wrong when hunting and these are not just your minor cuts.
This is what happened to this fellow hunter.
He suffered a hunting related-accident which the doctor had to amputate his thumb.
For privacy reason the hunter name is unknown.
As the hunting story goes while muzzleloader hunting deep inside the mountains of Virginia, a coyote displayed itself a shot to the hunter.
Obviously, this hunter took the shot.
Unfortunately, the barrel exploded on his Savage 10ML II muzzleloader and severely damage his hand. Read the rest of this terrible hunting accident story here.
Ouch!
Three of four respondents at the article expressed their pleasure that this occurred.
There’s been a bunch of those that blew up. They are the ones that were muzzle loaders that loaded with smokeless powder rather than black. I suspicion that most were due to errors, but I think Savage quit making them due to liability.
Cleaning Rod still in barrel?.................
It might be nice if they could explain why the barrel failed. Was it loaded properly?
Didn’t seat the ball properly? Double dose of powder?
Cant read the article at work.
Maybe. Right handed rifle, explosion on right side of barrel, left hand would have been there. Right hand is shown injured. Article sounds like a translation. Also, read the left wing comments.
Always clean your weapons
But....Libs are so inclusive and love diversity!
I can’t help but think of Sylvester getting the combo of powder, wadding, and shot wrong in a vintage Bugs Bunny cartoon.
Not to make light of what happened though.
But that is two incidents over a time span of about 75 years.
.
Way back in High School days a friend lost both thumbs driving his XKE Jag with his thumbs stuck in the holes in the spokes of the steering wheel as he drove into a ditch on a mountain road.
Shall we ban cars now?
.
Why was he holding the barrel? Must have been a stock there at one point.
Most people don’t know enough to properly load a black powder firearm.................
“Also, read the left wing comments.”
Not at all surprised. I almost want to start trapping coyotes instead of shooting them.
... Then driving them into liberal areas under the cover of night and letting them all go.
Yes, you can see the separation point in the wood if you look real close...................
I’ve seen it done and with a little reasoning and some experience, I’d think I could figure it out.
I'm all for killing coyotes, but that's just mean.
Deep in the mountains of Virginia, hahaha I just had to laugh at that one maybe a hundred years ago but not anymore it’s hard to get out of other people’s way in deep in the heart of the mountains of Virginia.
I will say this about hunting accidents though, when I was in high school I went to school with a guy who was hunting with his father up in Pennsylvania and they decided to take a lunch break, sat down and they were eating their sandwiches and a stray bullet from the other side of the knob arced over, came down, and hit his father in the neck killing him instantly.
