‘I want to help humans genetically modify themselves’

Josiah Zayner, 36, recently made headlines by becoming the first person to use the revolutionary gene-editing tool Crispr to try to change their own genes. Part way through a talk on genetic engineering, Zayner pulled out a syringe apparently containing DNA and other chemicals designed to trigger a genetic change in his cells associated with dramatically increased muscle mass. He injected the DIY gene therapy into his left arm, live-streaming the procedure on the internet.

The former Nasa biochemist, based in California, has become a leading figure in the growing “biohacker” movement, which involves loose collectives of scientists, engineers, artists, designers, and activists experimenting with biotechnology outside of conventional institutions and laboratories.

For DNA to enter cells it needs a vector. That vector is a man-made virus. It is a reality right now. Gene therapy is being used on things like heart failure.

But this guy’s a nut or a fraud looking for trouble in the form of an anaphylactic reaction.

Could this lead to a cure or another cause of cancer?

Yes!

Why don’t you ask Sodom or Atlantis how mocking the Lord went for them?

This madness is a spit in the face of God and must be stopped

I agree. That’s why those who take the mark are damned even while they still draw breath.

If you’re no longer human, you’re no longer eligible to claim Christ’s sacrifice. You’ll be like the fallen ones or the Genesis 6 bastards, imo.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Wouldn’t it be safer, and a lot easier, to just stick his finger in a light socket? Might even kick start some hibernating brain cells.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, hates the limitations of being human. Those of us who believe in God realize that we are not and never will be gods. Liberals think that we can, and in fact insist on becoming gods, whether through modifying their bodies (tattoos, piercings), adopting the "right" social views, or believing in "science" (quotes because what liberals believe isn't really science) that will make us all gods some day.

That's why they hate Christianity and the real God - because they're not gods, and want no one standing in their way to become gods.

I am very well aware of how to make DNA enter cells, and the limitations of gene therapy.

There is no technique that can cause DNA to enter every cell in the body.

CRISPR/Cas9 is a method to precisely target where the DNA inserts into a chromosome. It does not overcome the difficulty of delivering the engineered DNA into every cell. We’ve already been able to target DNA insertions into larger pieces of DNA for a long time. CRISPR/Cas9 is just another tool for that purpose.

What is being spoken of here is inhibiting myostatin, which itself inhibits muscle growth. Note that it may facilitate wound healing and reduce obesity and heart disease. It might also be used to help people with Muscular Dystrophy. It is not all about turning people into a Frankenstein’s monster. FYI, about 1 in a million people have this gene naturally - and probably the only reason it is not more common is that these folks need to eat more (more muscle mass equals more energy burned), which undoubtedly led to many like this dying of starvation in the past. This is not so much of a problem nowadays...but necessarily means that the gene was more common long ago (IOW, God created a fair number of us this way).

That all said, I don’t know if I would ever do this...at least not until many thousands of others did it and had no adverse effects for at least several years. My father and his with died of atherosclerosis in their late 70s, and I would like to live longer, thank you very much.

Take a look at an article about it here: https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2009/06/myostatin-blockers-protect-against.html

Ya. And what happens when scientist find out that they made a mistake... 1, 2, 3, 100 generations from now.

Tinkering with the human genome is not without risks and consequences. Consequences that may take generations to be seen and then it is too late.
