There are many lists of best guns, best guns that does xyz. For the simplicity of this debate, we break this down to guns that are most reliable but from different types of firearms.
Well choose from a handgun, bolt-action, shotgun, submachinegun and a self loading rifle. Within this list everyone will debate if these guns are for SHTF, personal defense, home defense or military. Were only speaking about gun reliability here.
Heres the 5 most reliable Guns on the planet:
Handguns - Glocks
is very boring because its so reliable and easy to use. The Glocks that do malfunction are due to owners modding them.
SubmachineGuns Uzi
is one of the most simple firearms with only one moving part, the bolt. Considered most enduring sub guns, have been in production since the 1950s. The only negative is the top cover, overtime it tends to bend up causing the gun to run away while firing.
Bolt action rifle- Mauser 98
considered most influential gun to influence warfare. Easy to operate bolt, reliability and overall good rifle design is its main features. See the rest of the top 5 most reliable gun on the planet video here.
No revolvers?
Good point. A Glock 17 is a reliable semi auto but under the category of "handguns" a revolver would certainly be the winner.
Two Israeli weapons.
It’s da Joooooooos, it’s always da Joooooos!
Wow you guys have obviously never had a high primer or a funky crimp or a timing issue or a loose base pin
Revolvers are reliable, but not foolproof.
I think a modern autoloader is the best for reliability.
Not so many small moving parts/springs as with a revolver.
On the flip side, revolver is very simple and easy to troubleshoot/repair compared to some others.
All 5 of these guns are very reliable but there could be other choices which are just as good except maybe the 98 Mauser which really is top of the line.
For example, the Glock 17 is extremely reliable but I had a 17L which jammed often. It turned out to be a certain run of mags, but still a Glock which was not reliable at all.
I suspect the Sig Sauer P226 is even better.
The only guns I am missing are the AK47 and a Uzi. All the others are ready to go when the civil war starts plus, lots of ammo to go with them.
I suspect these ratings are based on reputation, not actual testing. Nor is being on the list a guarantee you wont get a lemon.
Beretta 92A1? Maybe not. If it was such an incredible weapon the military wouldn’t be getting rid of it for the Sig 320. I would not want to go at it with a weapon that somebody can reach right over with one hand and pull the slide right off?
Probably not until revolver manufacturers buy enough ad space in American Shooting Journal.
In other words, Follow the money?
The Glock is a great choice for the handgun. Reliability is not limited to how long the gun will keep firing before failing, but also how quickly you can repair a problem when one occurs.
When a Glock fails the repair can usually be made by the user with easily obtained parts and only one tool. Few other handgun makes have that utter compatibility of parts and ease of access that don’t require custom fitting/tuning or a gunsmith/manufacturer visit with special tools to resolve an issue.
Which happen about once for every 5000 autoloader jams. I’ve never had one in 60 years of shooting.
Despite silly stunts training experts imagine to be possible- nobody in real life has had an opponent reach over and take the slide off their Beretta 92.
Silliness.
Yep, a weak crimp with a big bore revolver will stop one quite well!
Hard to argue with a Glock and a 98 Mauser, I would have to put an AKM in there somewhere.
Until you get sand in the open slide.
