In 1980 I purchased a Smith and Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum with 4" barrel. On my first outing with it, the ejector rod started backing out of the cylinder while shooting and wedged the cylinder so hard that it couldn't swing out.
Revolvers are reliable, but not foolproof.
True - and some revolvers have had weak/broken spring issues keeping the hammer from working.
On the flip side, revolver is very simple and easy to troubleshoot/repair compared to some others.
