A recent study of the behavior of Tinder users says the app allegedly reinforces “ancient mating behaviour” because -- shockingly -- women want high-status men and men want good-looking women.
The Scotsman reports psychologists at the University of Aberdeen studied the Tinder behavior of 20-somethings and found that men wanted women who were physical attractive, while women sought out signifiers of status, such as “good career prospects, stability and intelligence.”
Dr Mirjam Brady-Van den Bos said the results reveal “we haven’t really changed in all those millennia of evolution.”
“Tinder is seen as a sophisticated but artificial way of meeting prospective partners. What we’ve shown though is that the way people search for potential dates is in line with what evolutionary theories on human mating choices would predict,” she continued.
According to Brandy-Van den Bos, Tinder promotes the “McDonalisation” of dating by allowing people to make quick choices, which make them rely on their instincts.
Despite the fact that men appear to select for looks and women select for status, Tinder has recently unveiled an “anti-douchebag” “Menprovement Initiative” campaign that attacks successful men for having positive upbringings.

As far as survival women want stable men to provide for them and their children. This makes sense. The question is why do men want beautiful women. A beautiful woman may be stupid and inept, which over time may prove her to be insufferable. Why are men so attracted to beautiful women?
In the beginning we were all beautiful, being perfectly made by God, Adam and Eve. Over time, as genetic mutations took over more of our body, we not only become weaker, but uglier. Maybe beautiful women are thought, on a subconscious level, to be better mates because they have fewer expressed genetic mutations.
That is a bit cynical. Women want status because men with status can provide and if you are going to reproduce you want to make sure your offspring will be taken care of.

That is why they seek a breadwinner. Men are stronger and not tied down to children and can produce more and more consistently. This has been somewhat modified by a wealthy civilization that substitutes digits and volts for bodily strength in a wide area but it is only somewhat. Hormones guarantee that “somewhatness.”
