Long-time freeper relocating from 110% Dem. voting district (you know what I mean) in Brooklyn to a Tucson development with one of the largest (if not the largest) Republican clubs in America (learned about it on FR about a decade ago!). So sick of running into people who insult Trump continuously, just assuming I'm of like mind because I don't wear a swastika or other Nazi paraphernalia. Was inspired by recent thread started by freeper moving to Phoenix. BTW, I know it's hot!
Don’t vote for McCain, Flake or McSally.
God bless your move .but see if you can find out why this large GOP club in Tucson probably has backed McCain for 30 years. We hope you aren’t disappointed by the answers.
Wow, good luck!! I need to consider this.... (my ‘Rat Congressmam is going to jail, Chaka Fattah).
Just keep in mind, although Arizona is still pretty republican, Tucson and Phoenix is drifting left. We welcome another republican to AZ
There is hot and there is HOT hot.
Don’t bring any debt. Cost of living here is lower, which means so are the wages, if you bring NYC debt you’re hosed. Keep in mind too we are still the democrat enclave within AZ, it’s not NYC style liberalism (we had shall issue C&C before the state did) but it’s still pretty liberal. Also grossly incompetent, Tucson’s government is just plain dumb. But I love it and my closest plan to leave is I kind of want to retire in Tombstone, but that’s like 45 minutes away, hardly even counts as leaving.
McSally is doing a good job. Saved the A10. The last Republican was Jim Kolbe. Will not get a die hard conservative elected in this district.
BTW, the liberals hate her.
You acclimate. I live in Vegas and it feels good at 99 degrees and it’s not unbearable up to 105. It’s like scuba diving you only go below/out for so long and go in, cool off, and back out again.
Tucson....home of former Senator Dennis DeCocini (D) and the Bonanno family....should feel like New York with a prickly cactus.
Remember Jumping Cholla will getcha every time.
You’ll want to check out the CCW requirements and participate ASAP.
Oh yeah, study this:

If you don’t know your way around Mexican food you’re doomed down here.
a friend just moved to Prescott Valley...
She loves illegals.
Tucson is only 100 degrees. Parts of San Fransicko area are at 117 and still rising.
Tucson is to AZ as Austin is to TX. Heavily influenced by a big university and major inflow of CA smug, idiot leftists. Don’t be surprised to run into a lot of people to the left of NYers.
I’m retired from my career in IT (not looking for a salaried position), and do freelance editing. The paltry bucks I get editing will go further in Tucson than they do in NY. I visited Tucson in early June and although it got hot in the afternoons, the early mornings and evenings were lovely. Sat out on the patio with coffee in the A.M. and wine in the P.M. and stared at mountains. Only one person insulted Trump in 3 whole days (hard to go 3 whole minutes in NY without that happening).
Tucson sucks. Lived there thirteen years. They didn’t build freeways so you sit in massive traffic. The politics are insane. The police have traffic quotas and if one gets behind you, it’s a ticket, even for chewing gum, figuratively. Crime is terrible. Breakin’s all over. I got robbed in 2007, and survived three other attempts because I was armed.
You can make friends, but they will be liberals. Some nice people individually, but collectively it’s the armpit of the state.
Perfect economic situation to come down here. Even the liberals around here tend to be pretty mellow, it’s a mellow town. The mañana attitude (”we can do it tomorrow”) runs strong around here, which causes the whole pace to relax. You missed a great monsoon, we mostly avoided 100 for about a month, now we’re in the Summer’s revenge (last heat wave) part of the year. You pretty much won’t be wearing a tie anymore either, those are basically for weddings and funeral here, and half of those a tie is overdressing, last time I wore one I was IN the wedding and almost none of the guest wore them. If you can relax you’ll love it, you’re gonna miss high quality cold cuts here though, we’ve got some good sources, but none of them are NYC good.
Don't get me wrong, Tucson is a and interesting and nice city but it's not a patriot's paradise. It has fantastic Mexican restaurants, a wealth of things to see, and is very close to some awesome wilderness.
If you find the heat too oppressive in the summer I highly recommend a day trip up to Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson. The top of Mount Lemmon in a straight line is only about 15 miles from downtown Tucson but it's like being in Canada. At the start of the road at the bottom of the mountain you're in Sonoran desert surrounded by Saguaro cactus and at the top of the mountain you are at 8700 feet in a green Canadian Alpine paradise of Aspen and Blue Spruce.
