Trump vows to fight Freedom Caucus just as he fights the Democrats

Defeat from the jaws of victory

You know what their response is going to be, of course. They’re going to complain that the White House and the leadership are putting forth terrible bills that don’t really repeal ObamaCare but institutionalize government-run health care for generations. I’ve already told you why I don’t agree with them, and Rob’s already told you why he does.

So let’s skip all that and see what Trump himself has to say about the matter:

Trump is on record supporting preexisting coverage

90% of the problems with ACA stems from the pre-existing coverage provision. So anyone who wants to keep that wants ACA, they just want tpo make a few cosmetic changes. They also don't understand how insurance works. Before ACA there was chairy care, but it wasn't considered insurance, because that is not how insurance works. Basically, you are saying you want a system that punishes the healthy and leaves them without coverage.

That is so much the point about Obamacare.

It stole actual coverage from the healthy to get money for the very ill which is unworkable since it leaves the healthy paying for nothing of value to them. Then it left everyone vulnerable to being wiped out by a moderate healthcare crisis because of the high deductible & copay. Ergo they had no insurance or access to healthcare only the illusion.

Obamacare was a complete distortion of the premise of insurance. The insurance companies made sure they weren’t the losers but the people were setup & fleeced.

I’m not saying anything about what I want, I’m saying even many conservatives won’t repeal preexisting coverage, and therefore we cannot get total repeal now, it is impossible.

I would favor free market and then medicaid only for those who truly cannot afford insurance or health care, meaning that if you fail to buy insurance you risk losing everything if you get really sick. Because without that risk you have to force people to buy insurance, or insurance will cost a fortune.

The problem is free market and guaranteed coverage for preexisting illness do not work together.

Having a $5000 deductible isn’t having health insurance, in the modern meaning. More people are allegedly covered, but they only have health insurance in name only.

Then we should all just be truthful, and they should say they want ACA. As long as it's preexisting coverage, not charity care, then certain people are going to be several punished. Our healthcare system will degrade, and the middle class will have greatly degraded healthcare.

If they preexisting condition coverage is going to be maintained, then we might as well move on to something else, because nothing else is going to change with healthcare.

The problem is free market

What free market? Plus, I thought Trump was elected to get rid of the free market, and that it was a dirty word?

I’m at work, I cannot watch a video. I can address the words you wrote. And If you note I put the part of your words I altered in parentheses.

It’s easy for the FC to say one thing on repealing Obamacare in 2015, then another in 2017.

But where are they on voter fraud? Not much out of them on this.

I’m listening to Rush Limbaugh defend the freedom caucus today. I listened to him the day the bill was considered and he absolutely defended the bill.

Ha! Remember that. Up to the minute it was pulled, ol’ Rushbo was puffin’ on Ryan’s ‘cigar’ (”This bill will do X, Y and Z. It’s GREAT. It’s ‘conservative’, it’s ‘small govt’”). Shame nobody’s come out w/ a flip-flop montage of the same :P

I can’t take listening to the talking heads anymore (Sean’s “We need a ‘safety’ net”, Levin’s ‘I’m too smart for this’ and the rest).

Maybe the freedom caucus is not what they say they are.

Hmmmm, Freedom Caucus stood up for what they campaigned on, Ryan and Trump didn't.............and it's the Freedom Caucus that maybe aren't what they say they are? The plan was a load of putrescence.

I’m not happy with the tweet either. I have a huge problem with Reince Priebus and Paul Ryan carrying such weight with his decisions. (IMO)

And I’m extremely disappointed in his “public” bullying of the Freedom Caucus. I’m rather surprised by his tactic, I expected better from him. Trying to strong arm his own base won’t work, IMO.

Glad you realized they are all self promoters. At this point in his career, Limbaugh comes right out and admits he “has to be careful” what he says because he might offend different factions. Oh, I thought he’s in the opinion business.

Today he claimed to know about the MSNBC interview days ago, but he had to remain quiet about it until others “confirmed” it! Why?

My “favorites” are the callers who help him sell tea or kids’ books, and when he makes a “prediction” and then ten minutes later announces that he “just” found a news story confirming his brilliant prediction.

Was it so easy for them to vote to repeal Obamacare a couple years back because they knew Obama was right there to save them with his veto?

They differ from Trump on one issue, while ignoring all of he junk from the Obama years he has dismantled and + a SCOTUS pick that many of them swore he would never make.

That’s all of an excuse the “snowflake right” needs.

You said it!

I’m trying not to think too negatively about the HFC because I just think they chose a very poor tactic in trying to get what they wanted.

I’m less forgiving about those who demand impossible perfection and will shiv a man because he called out what he viewed as a dishonest caucus.

Look at it from Trump’s POV.

The HFC negotiated in bad faith, lied to him about their support, and never had any intent to pass anything while pretending they did, at least according to the sources I’ve seen!

If that happened to me, I’d be saying a LOT worse than what Trump said, and a LOT louder, even if they’re supposedly on ‘my side.’

Whether or not that’s how it went down in reality, it’s fairly obvious that’s how Trump perceived it, and how Congressman Poe said that it went down.

I can certainly understand why he’s upset with them.

It may be public, but I don’t think it’s personal bullying.

Remember that the HFC and the Trump administration are not the same; they are different factions in Washington with different tactics and different goals.

The HFC decided to scuttle Ryancare in a way that painted them as uncooperative, disloyal, and liars. They obviously thought that it was worth it, but Trump obviously saw it a different way.

And, dispassionately, Trump’s reaction is exactly what one would do if he’s playing with Tough but Fair game theory. He gets more of his pretty-darn-conservative agenda passed by compromising with the RINOs and putting pressure on the HFC than by letting the Freedom Caucus fight him without fighting back.

We don’t have to LIKE it, but it’s completely consistent with a businessman who knows game theory and deal making WAY better than I do.

Great op-ed from @RepKenBuck. Looks like some in the Freedom Caucus are helping me end #Obamacare.

Trump is always on the move. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing to call out the Freedom Caucus? Got results...
