My family and I would really appreciate your thoughts and prayers for healing over the next few weeks. On the 19th of January I'm scheduled to have brain surgery.
At end of October I suffered a minor stroke. It didn't feel minor at the time but fortunately I recovered quickly and almost completely. Within a few weeks I was back at work, and after a month of therapy my speech and movement had resolved to a level where only those who knew me very well pre-stroke had any idea something had happened.
In the MRI taken to diagnose the stroke, an unrelated mass was found in the other brain hemisphere. That set off a series of additional tests and second opinions, with the ultimate diagnosis is that it's a glioma and it needs to come out. So I'm scheduled for brain surgery on January 19th. If it hadn't been for the stroke, I never would have had the MRI so I wouldn't have known anything was wrong until I started developing symptoms from the tumor.
The situation had felt pretty abstract up to this point, but I just got the preauthorization from the insurance company and am working out an extended absence with my employer and suddenly it has become very real. No longer just penciled in on the calendar, but written in with a Sharpie marker in all caps. It's gotten very, very real.
The doctors think is likely low grade and benign- but they cannot say for certain until there is a tissue sample to analyze, and that analysis will determine whether follow up radiation and chemotherapy will be needed.
I would definitely appreciate your prayers. That God will guide the surgeon's hand on the 19th, for the tumor to turn out benign and for a speedy recovery with no complications.

The daughter of a family in our parish had an accident and hit her head somewhat badly. An MRI was done and that’s when they found a mass on her brain. Surgery was done and happily it turned out to be a fungal growth and was removed. But had she not bumped her head, who knows what it might have done if left in there.
Isn’t it cool to see the Hands of God at work? Praying that this is a similar scenario for you and that you’ll heal up right quick!
