A new study by economists from Harvard and Princeton indicates that 94% of the 10 million new jobs created during the Obama era were temporary positions.
The study shows that the jobs were temporary, contract positions, or part-time "gig" jobs in a variety of fields.
Female workers suffered most heavily in this economy, as work in traditionally feminine fields, like education and medicine, declined during the era.
The research by economists Lawrence Katz of Harvard University and Alan Krueger at Princeton University shows that the proportion of workers throughout the U.S., during the Obama era, who were working in these kinds of temporary jobs, increased from 10.7% of the population to 15.8%.
Krueger, a former chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, was surprised by the finding.
The disappearance of conventional full-time work, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. work, has hit every demographic. Workers seeking full-time, steady work have lost, said Krueger.
Under Obama, 1 million fewer workers, overall, are working than before the beginning of the Great Recession.
The outgoing president believes his administration was a net positive for workers, however.
"Since I signed Obamacare into law (in 2010), our businesses have added more than 15 million new jobs," said Obama, during his farewell press conference last Friday, covered by Investing.com.
I remember how the MSM made sure to repeat the phrase “hamburger-flipper jobs” every time they were forced to report a decline in the unemployment rate during Reagan’s two terms in office.
I’m sure that phrase will be making a return in 2017 and beyond.
Remember the stimulus bill, the “shovel ready jobs”?
Guess what; not very stimulating when the country must endure a trillion dollar increase in health care.
In all fairness, neither party seems to complain about the contract roles that go on for multiple years in some companies.
.
To Obama, burying America is a shovel ready job.

Wow, I’m stunned. Not really, but my family has really been blessed.
I lost my job in 2009. It took a few months and a cross country move, but my employment circumstances are far better.
All four of my kids are employed. Two are full time, one of those is also taking full time online classes.
The third just started a college internship that’s blowing my mind. Good pay, 401K, paid vacation and even education assistance. I think he’ll be able to make enough to pay off his student loans before he graduates.
The fourth is still in high school part time.
It took some work for all of them but hard work and perseverance does pay off.
along with obamacare, a lot of companies changed a lot of full jobs into more part time jobs. 5 “jobs” become 10 because everyone’s working 20 hours instead of 40.
The “stimulus” was just a bail-out to local and state governments when revenues dropped drastically in 2009
How many are govt jobs?
Here are a couple of reasons why there are more contract workers. I was talking last night with someone who hires for his department (government agency in DC). There’s rule that if someone in the agency wants the new job, you have to give it to them. There’s a person who wants a job for which there’s an opening, but this person is very difficult to work with. So the dept head is trying to wait him out hoping he will leave and is using contract workers in the interim. There’s a secretarial opening that is marked for a $90K salary, and the dept head refuses to hire at the rate based on principle. He said it used to be that govt salaries were modest but benefits were good. Nowadays the benefits are great and salaries are exorbitant. The dept head also said most of the low-level employees are pretty much worthless.
Helluva job, ...well, you know.
Also the increase in the number of illegal aliens with jobs in the US over the past 8 years exceeded the total number of new jobs created in the US over the past 8 years.
The US may have added (back) 15 million jobs, but it lost more than that during the 2008-09 crater, so we’re just about back to the number of jobs we had back in 2007. Meanwhile, we’ve added 20 million to the US population. So we’re actually well below the number of jobs we would have to have in order to keep up with population growth.
Further, I’ve read from several sources that nearly all the “new” jobs since 2010 actually went to immigrants, and that nearly all the new job growth occurred in Texas.
All this helps to explain why the labor participation rate is the lowest it’s been in decades. The “unemployment rate” number is so severely cherry-picked that it has become meaningless. The Dow number likewise. Ditto the inflation numbers.
Or HB1s
The “gig” economy. Stagflation worse than Nixon’s and Carter’s.
Never let the truth get in the way of a good propaganda story.

You mean they’re allowed to publish true stuff at Harvard and Princeton? What is the world coming to?
I was at Sears waiting my turn at the checkout and there were 2 people ahead of me talking about their kids (they met in line). One said her 19 year old son got a job as a game programmer with a starting salary of $120,000 !
She said he came home for a visit and overheard her say to her 10 year old to stop playing video games and go outside and play. She said her 19 year looked at her and said “mom!”
Have your kids learn programming!
Problem with that is that today’s programming will be outdated and no longer in use by the time said kid graduates from high school.
The fundamentals are always good, though.
