I want to replace the broken driver's seat in our Monte Carlo. Need help - mostly just info.

Bottom line, the best possible world would be to find same-year Monte in the junkyard to replace it with.

But, what I want to know is if there are other cars of the era (2002) that would have compatible seats, to widen the possibility of success.

I was thinking Impalas or Malibus might have the same seat system.

My car has absolutely NO electrical component to the seats, so I'm just looking for any that match strictly mechanically.

Does anyone know if other models use the same plain-jane mechanical driver seats as the 2002 Monte Carlo?

I loved my Monte Carlo....so many years ago.

And when I would park it in a lot....the guy would always say...."Oh, you're the lady with the Monte!! Yes!!

I think it is basically the same car as a Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick LeSabre of that same vintage, so a seat from one of those may also fit.

This is a 2nd gen W-platform body, so you would have best luck with the following:

2nd Gen 110.5 in wheelbase (full-size)

1997–2003 Pontiac Grand Prix
2000–2005 Chevrolet Impala
2000–2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Also check out w-body.com for info on exchangability and leads on donor cars.

In these type situations, I have found some success in searching for “Chevy Monte Carlo forum” or “Chevrolet monte carlo forum” and seeing what I can find.

Most often, I find something or other where there is a service tech from a real Chevy dealership who can tell you “2000 - 2004 seats are identical, but you can use up to 2007 but the seat heater (which you never had in your original) will not work.....” with a pretty high degree of confidence.

I was hoping you needed the swivel seats out of a 1977 Monte Carlo , or Laguna SS, I have a pair that need a home. But I don’t think they would work in you 2002

Yeah, I love this car. Turned my head so many years ago with that sweeping style, and I ended up buying 1.

People at work noticed - (big company) - calling me “Glen Burnie girl” (redneck-type car) and 1 of my direct co-workers thought I had bought a Cadillac.

That's a W body and shares many things as per below; 2nd Gen 110.5 in wheelbase (full-size)
The seats on all of the above should bolt right in but seat belt connections might be different. Now Impala interiors won't have any cloth or vinyl that matches Monte cloth and vinyl. You would either end up with mismatched seats or you'd have to get both left and right and then they still wouldn't match the back seat. Junkyard would be your best bet. Inside the glovebox door, you should see a sticker and that might tell you what the interior color/package name is or it might be a code similar to a paint code. Or you could just go to the junkyards and walk around. Most yards don't keep track of all that stuff on a computer but some do. You might hear "gray" over the phone but there could be three different versions of gray for that year/model.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone have a shop manual for these cars? We can find out easiest that way!
