God's man on the diamond?
The sports fan in me says theres no way. Tim Tebow hasnt played baseball since high school, and that was 11 years ago. The guy is a very impressive physical/athletic specimen, but the skill and timing required to hit a ball coming at you at 97 miles per hour is not something you can just put aside for more than a decade and then pick up again because youre big and strong.
Thats what the sports fan in me says. I very much appreciate Tebows commitment to his faith and his willingness to speak of it despite the mockery of the prevailing culture. That made him a positive asset to the NFL during his brief career there. I somewhat lament that Christian football fans cant get past the idea that Tebow is some sort of superstar whos just being blackballed because of his faith. The NFL is not exactly a Christian institution - not when it turns the entire crowd at the Super Bowl into a gay love rainbow - but if you can play quarterback well, some team is going to want you.
Johhny Manziel invites 31 teams to go barhopping with him.
More like 31 tits. Of course that’s a bit odd.
What’s next Tim, the NHL?
Imho, he needs to find a job outside of sports.
Tim batted .494 in High School.
Impressive.
My boss (who played minor league ball for a couple years) always told me hitting a baseball in the majors was the toughest thing in sports.
Michael Jordan (.202) obviously didn’t get there.
He was also one of the best college QBs I’ve ever seen. But the pros are a lot different than college or high school.
Also, don’t a lot of guys hit for averages like that in high school?
Unless you are a pitcher, baseball is not a tall man's sport.
Well Prince Fielder just retired so maybe the Rangers have a spot for Tebow.
I’m sure Tebow would be a strong minor league attendance boost.
Frankly he’s doing a favor to whomever loses his spot as someone that marginal a player needs to get on with life.
This great publicity but not much else in the scheme of things.
If he was that into football, he’d be playing QB in the CFL, where he could have been a star. Tebow isn’t good enough to play QB in the NFL, and I doubt that he could even connect with Double-A pitching right now. He really needs to move on.
He already has. Won. Above average NFL record.
At the end of August?! He really thinks some team is going to take a punt on a guy that’s never seen a major league pitch for their pennant run?! Really Tim, you’re almost 29, you had a great college career, you gave it a heck of a try in the NFL but just weren’t good enough, it’s time to put youthful things behind you.
And below average in EVERY OTHER STAT (you know, the ones not driven by the other 52 people on the team). Tebow worshipers need to get over it. He was great in college but 5 training camps with 4 teams proved irrefutably that he is not and never has been an NFL caliber QB.
He already has. Won. Above average NFL record.
“And below average in EVERY OTHER STAT (you know, the ones not driven by the other 52 people on the team).”
Your point is well taken. There are some things in the NFL more important than winning.
Not more important, but more INDICATIVE. We literally just watch another Denver team win a Superbowl 100% because of their amazing defense. Peyton Manning sucked all season, it’s the only time in his career he had more INTs than TDs, and it was more than DOUBLE (9 TDs 17 INTs). And yet they won, not because of Peyton, but IN SPITE of him. Same with Tebow, he STUNK, his stats were almost as bad as Peyton last year, but they won, much like last year on the power of a great defense.
Ws are a TEAM stat, not an individual stat. Crediting the QB exclusively for a win is quite simply lying. Especially when that QB completed less than 50% of his passes.
