Republicans Consider ‘Conscientious Objector’ Rule for Convention Delegates
Yahoo News ^ | 18 Jun 2016

Members of the GOP Convention Rules committee are planning to consider an amendment to allow delegates a way out of voting for Trump on the first ballot—an effort that in an extreme could be used to deny him the nomination.

Under the proposal, delegates could be granted conscientious objector status, thereby freeing them from their pledge to vote as they are bound as the result of primaries and caucuses. The measure, first put forward by Colorado delegate Kendal Unruh, would undo the strict ‘faithless-delegate’ rule enacted at the GOP convention in 2012 and allow a “vote of conscience, whether personal or religious” by delegates.

“Allowable personal reasons shall include the public disclosure of one or more grievous acts of personal conduct by a nominee candidate, including but not limited to, criminally actionable acts, acts of moral turpitude or extreme prejudice, and/or notorious public statements of support for positions that clearly oppose or contradict the policies embodied in the Republican Party’s platform as established at the national convention,” the amendment says.

Nearly all convention delegates are bound under the current rules—at least on the first ballot—by the results of primaries and caucuses in their states and territories. At minimum the proposed amendment would free frustrated delegates from having to vote for Trump, and in the extreme could deny Trump the 1,237 delegates required to win the nomination—even on the first ballot.

On Friday, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus announced the selection of the chair and co-chair of the Convention Rules Committee, Utah National Committeewoman Enid Mickelson and Massachusetts National Committeeman Ron Kaufman. Both have spoken negatively about Trump in the past, but are viewed as party institutionalists.

clearly establishment is establishment without party lines. Republican estab would rather see HRC than Trump. Unfortunately, the reality is it is going to require an epic fight from Trump to overcome both parties and the media throwing bombs at him.

I can’t even fathom the destruction HRC can inflict on this country. God only knows which enemy countries are salivating over the prospect of foreign policy via blackmail.

I am disgusted by what lies ahead. It is very hard to make the argument....even from the most optimistic out there...that America’s best days are ahead.

Anyone delegate who votes against the candidate to whom he or she is pledged is utterly without conscience or principles or integrity.

Watch for a revenge ballot down wipe out of GOP nominees
if this stunt happens.
Many of the good, the bad and the ugly will be voted out
by revengeful voters, like myself.

It’s interesting how, in an election year, the media still refers to RINOs, the “conservative” front-end of the corrupt Washington cartel, as Republicans.

They haven’t been representing their constituents’ wishes for years. Why start now?

That’s why trump won. And they still don’t get it. Certainly dumb enough to be welcomed to the D convention so they should just go endorse hillary there and skip the Rs.

This is going to result in violence. This is an assault on self government and voting itself. Something straight out of King George.

“I am disgusted by what lies ahead.”

At the moment the American people needed to be reassured that their government is not being run by the muslim brotherhood. The republicans open fire on Trump.

The battle lines are drawn. They are fvcking traitors.

what bunk.
remember a while back when Cruz double-crossed Kasich? and Kasich got his revenge by working with Trump to lock up all the positions on the Rules Committee?
the rules committee aren’t going to come up with some crap rule that would allow delegates to void the will of the people - delegates are not elected to think or have personal opinions; the public, at the ballot box, has already done the thinking for them, and if a delegate objects to that, they need to vacate their position immediately.

Maybe Rush Limbaugh can explain again why it didn’t matter that Cruz delegates are occupying Trump delegate spots.

I’m hoping Trump wins the general, but I’m also planning to go full on anti-republican if he doesn’t.

I want that party destroyed and the elites out on their butts.

This whole thing with them is disgusting.
