Just a random thought for the day...I believe there's a good possibility that had JFK, Jr. not died, he may very well have become POTUS by now...or possibly be Trump's opponent this time around.
Weren’t there rumors about him and his sister-in-law? He went to the airport with his sister in law, and his wife showed up late for the last flight.
Nor, did they have Papa Joe running interference for them like their father (JFK) had. There would NEVER have been a JFK presidency without the Old Bootlegger's money, connections, and brains.
His wife and her sister kept delaying the departure with preparations. He had never planned to be in the air at such a treacherous time in the evening...it just worked out that way.>>> yes i recall that as well now that you mention it. death by wife and sister in law.
“He inherited his sub-par intellect from his mother, who was lovely but stupid..”
I don’t really know if Jackie Kennedy Onassis was stupid or not, but I doubt she was any stupider than the Kennedys who do not impress as intellectuals in any way.
She was smart enough to keep her children away from that clan of Irish hooligans after their father’s murder, she was smart enough for Ari Onassis who I feel sure was very smart and seemed not to like “arm-candy” as you put it but went for more accomplished women (who were, no shocker, quite beautiful. As Rush Limbaugh rightly points out: feminism was advanced so unattractive women c could have access to power, and I thought that myself in the 1970s when the bar burning and baby killing was just beginning - and I’m of the female persuasion myself.)
She also buried a child, had her husband’s brains blow into her lap, escaping death herself by merest luck, and kept on ticking. She got a job later in life and had had a job before she married JFK when she certainly did not need to work an any time.
I’m glad she did not live to see her son die.
He failed the NY Bar twice. His stint at the DA’s office was poor at best. He spun his Saratoga into the Atlantic. His magazine was about to fold. His marriage was in the dumper.
Unanimous feeling in DC was that he was somewhat of a nice guy, but very much a lightweight.
True, but that didn't stop his cousins from getting elected to Congress. JFK Jr. probably could have won some kind of political career, if he wanted to.
He would probably have gotten bored with the magazine at some point and politics might have looked like a real option. How long he would have lasted and how far he would have gotten is harder to say.
I don't believe the conspiracy theories, but if he'd run for the NY Senate seat it would have put a major monkeywrench in Hillary's plans. Maybe she would have decided to run in Illinois instead and we would never have heard of Barack Obama.
Yikes!!
Another little-reported factoid on Jackie O is that she took up with a moneybags later in life, who also managed her money. Otherwise, she would have squandered it much like her in-laws did.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Tempelsman
The two began their lengthy relationship in 1980, five years after the death of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis second husband Aristotle Onassis.[9][30] In 1988, Tempelsman moved into Onassiss Fifth Avenue penthouse apartment in New York City.[3] During their relationship, Tempelsman handled Onassiss finances, quadrupling the $26 million secured from her late husbands estate.[31]
The Clintons had to establish their dynasty. It’s like the new mob bosses taking over. I guess they just totally underestimated Jughead.
the only good kennedy = never existed
“Otherwise, she would have squandered it much like her in-laws did.”
That’s a mere assertion. She was of French descent you know, those people are quite pecunious.
I wiki’d her to check on the ethnicity and learned she had 2 children who died in infancy, not just one. I’m sorry, I have to give this woman a lot of credit, she went through some of the worst life has to offer and kept her chin up. She must be rolling in her grave over today’s generation of “safe space” demanders.
Anyway, here is the wiki link if anyone is interested:

I was talking to some fellow aviation enthusiasts, and when I suggested, as he had vertigo in the dusk, and was spinning down, sweat dripping, trying to figure out what was going on, she was probably in the co-pilot seat, hectoring him all the way to impact "You TOLD me you knew how to fly this thing! Stop this motion, I am getting dizzy! Why didn't you take your friend up on his offer to fly us over? I TOLD you it was getting too dark! What's going to happen..."
And so on, all the way to the water. We all looked at each other, shook our heads...nope. THAT'S a lousy way to go.
Kennedys:
Can’t Drive
Can’t Fly
Can’t Swim
Can’t Ski
Can’t Skipper a Boat
....but they know what’s best for us.
Never get into a car or a plane with a Kennedy.
See my tagline...
Well Uncle Ted was unable to pass a bar.
now, now ... George Kennedy was a fine actor. ;-)
Can’t drive a car. Can’t sail a boat. Can’t fly a plane...and so on.
Oh, I agree that she managed to keep herself in one piece through much, much heartbreak, and she deserves props for that. Of course, living on a Greek Island with a multi-millionaire husband sort of cushioned things a bit...
Wasn’t she basically Ari Onassis’ “Beard”.
