Lawyers for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the most famous US Army deserter since Sgt. Eddie Slovik went before a firing squad in January 1945, are having a sad about Donald Trump.
Trump says Taliban turncoat Bergdahl, now awaiting a general court-martial after walking away from an Afghanistan outpost in 2009, should face a firing squad of his own. The lawyers say Trump's polluting the jury pool for Bergdahl's court-martial, and they want to talk to the GOP presidential front-runner about it.
Both are blowing hard.
Trump, for votes: Surely he knows the Army doesn't execute military deserters -- Slovik being the sole exception in the past century.
The lawyers, for tactical reasons: They know Bergdahl's jurors will be serving officers in an Army that has so far proceeded with honor in this dismal affair -- defying Obama administration ideologues along the way -- and are thus unlikely to be influenced by anything The Donald has to say....

So?
I hope you’re not going to defend this guy because you don’t support Trump.
In fact, the father, speaking in Arabic, wearing a muzzie beard and acting like an anti-American jackass in the Rose Garden and afterwards at his press conference did more to tamper with the jury pool of the entire country than Trump did in his truthful condemnation of a traitor.
As a New Yorker, I can tell you that Trump is a very strong patriot and anti-crime guy.
Beware, Trump supporters: if he gets the nomination, the Central Park Jogger case will take center stage. Prepare for it; educate yourselves. I’m warning you guys.
I doubt anyone is listening.

I am. Why do you say this?
Bowe deserted in a combat zone.
That means he didn’t care if his fellow American Soldiers were slaughtered because he wouldn’t be at his post.
He didn’t care.
No matter what other punishment Bergdahl receives, he should be made to walk the gauntlet of his fellow Soldiers.
Trump has expressed his opinion on what ought to be done with Bergdahl. What eventually happens has nothing to do with Trump.
How can you contaminate a jury pool when everyone on the jury will be an active duty member of the military? Someone’s blowing smoke. Why?
Because no one knows about his participation in this horrible time period in NYC (his support of the young lady, his denunciation of the criminals and his money towards her recovery) and Ken Burns ‘revisionist’ documentary which led to the vicious rapists being let off. It will be a centerpiece to destroy him.
I followed this every day of my life during this period. Trump and Sinatra were heroes; and it was one of the crimes that elected Guiliani.
Thanks for the heads up. I googled and read up on the particulars and outcome.

I couldn't agree more with Trump, that's the max penalty for desertion in the face of the enemy.
Whether it's now enforced or not doesn't change the UCMJ plus Trump's opinion will not change the views of a military panel hearing the case.
I heard that some of them were let off, and assumed it was leftist lies after Obama took office.
Ken Burns has been a shame and embarrassment for many years.
They will paint him as a cruel racist who hated little black boys. Those evil young men were as guilty as hell. Just like Bernie Goetz’s perps were as guilty as hell.
I loathe Ken Burns. Why doesn’t he admit he’s gay, btw?

If Trump is elected president then he is commander in chief of the military. the defense could argue that Trump’s statements during the campaign show his true beliefs and thus could be considered as being orders to the military jury. thus the ‘jury pool is contaminated’ by “improper command influence.”
This is NOT blowing smoke. I remember a court martial case in the 3rd Armored Division back in the mid-80s. The division commander made a remark to Stars and Stripes during the trial of a member of the division. The military defense lawyer brought in a request for cancellation of the trial due to “improper command influence.” the military judge agreed and it was upheld by the V Corp JAG.
Actually Bergdahl’s fellow troopers WERE slaughtered as they searched FOR HIM through Muslim-infected strongholds - as Bergdahl (deliberately) avoided “rescue” by the Americans he detested.
Trump is a civilian. His remarks were stated as a civilian. Foolish comparison.
That’s amazing.
