A lot of people are very afraid of Donald Trump. His success will come at their expense because power in politics is a zero sum commodity. What one side gains is always at the expense of the other.
Every day we are presented with twisted and convenient definitions of conservatism from those who desperately donât want to be on the losing side.
To them, changing oneâs mind and acknowledging the value of conservative positions has become a sign of insincere conservatism. They echo the liberal line about Lincoln not being so great because he, âCame lateâ to the idea of freeing the slaves, without any Self-consciousness. Smug self-congratulation will do that.
âMoving the goal posts,â is another verbal gymnastic trick Trumpâs attackers have borrowed from the Left. Thus Trumpâs positions never seem to go far enough to satisfy them.
What a conservative candidate should stand for is very clear and Trump holds all of the important positions a conservative such hold.
Trump wants to: close our borders and tighten control over who comes into America;
Built a strong and feared military;
Keep America safe from those who want to kill us; and is not afraid to name them as Muslims;
Spread the pro-life message;
Institute an effective taxing plan that will provide opportunities for Americaâs recovery;
Deal with the world from a position of strength and regain respect...

Trump has a chance of taking NY, NJ and PA. I don’t think Cruz would have any chance taking these states.
There is more to it than that. He is not just the most electable conservative. He is also the conservative most able to push a conservative agenda through the gauntlet of media and establishment power structures.
except for the “conservative” part.
that’s not reflected in the polls really.
trump/cruz dont do much different against hillary naionwide.
so that would mean cruz is getting a lot more votes in some state or another if trump is taking those three.
i have a bad feeling about one group of supporters turning out for the other guy if theirs’ loses.
that would be very bad.
it has been a contentious few weeks. hopefully that will resolve
people keep saying ny, nj and pa based on what their neighbors are thinking, etc
but some polls in these states would be great. i cant seem to find any
I don’t have any opinion about ‘electable’ but I have serious doubts about the ‘conservative’ part.
Even if his conservative positions have been extremely recent?
It behooves every man to remember that the work of the critic is of altogether secondary importance, and that in the end, progress is accomplished by the man who does things.
Theodore Roosevelt
Conservative enough. And he is absolutely the ONLY Republican who can win in the general. And he would.
Did we again change the definition of conservative? Last I knew Trump was not one.
I am of the opinion that using the word “conservative” and Trump in the same sentence is playing fast and loose with definitions.
So even after reading the list of Trump’s conservative positions those that hate him say things like - yeah he came late to it - which Democrat crap and “Polls show he can’t beat Hillary Clinton.” Really? Firstly he IS beating her already and hasn’t even really started after her. Granny Clinton IS THE ESTABLISHMENT people hate and she is a criminal - Trump will win at least 303 ECvs.
Sorry Coach - you lost me at the title by asserting Trump’s a conservative which - those of us not prone to self-delusion - know is patently false by the words coming out of his own mouth. He’s a go-along/get-along RINO at best, willing to trade “heaven only knows what” to the Dems to advance his agenda.
Once you get a *firm* statement from “The Master Negotiator” that lists the conservative values and constitutional rights and protections he absolutely will not negotiate away in the form of further infringement by E.O., policy and/or legislation loaded with dem goodies, then I will reconsider. Until then, Cruz is the only candidate I trust.
I support Trump. If he's out, then I re-evaluate and support the best of those remaining.
In the end, I will support the Republican nominee. Unless it is Bush. If that's the case, someone else will have to pick up my slack. I don't think I could pull that lever.
Coach is wrong.
Trump is not conservative.
(D)onald Trump is neither electable (60% unfavorable rating) nor conservative.
Just delete the word conservative from this whole thread, and you have greater accuracy.
And what has Trump done to advance conservative or American principles?
You seem to know, why don’t you tell us...
I usually like the Coach, but I think he is wrong on this one. Trump has the highest unpopularity ratings of any candidate in either party. A huge percentage of the folks I talk to every day regard him as a complete jerk who, as such, is necessarily unfit for the White House.p> I, for one, would never vote for him--no matter what. I think many conscientious conservatives would stay home on Election Day.
