Trump’s Iowa machine is very formidable

Chuck Laudner is Donald Trump’s Iowa campaign director. He is a Marine and a fighter who wants Trump to win and is not looking for a position in the Trump Administration. While other campaign staffs sleep with dreams of Pennsylvania Avenue dancing in their head, Laudner says when the Caucuses are over he’ll just go back to his ordinary life in a town so small it doesn’t have a diner.

Trump first spoke to Laudner last December because he goes into every contest well prepared.

We have heard about surveys in Iowa and how the caucuses are now a race to the finish between Ted Cruz and Trump. Nevertheless, in politics it’s usually what you don’t hear about that is most important.

The Iowa Caucuses are strange animals to most of us. They are not merely bands of people marching to a polling place. They are a process that requires patience on the part of the participants and the candidates. The results can be, and often are, skewed by Evangelical Christians who represent more than 55% of those expected to show up next February 1st.

In the last two go-rounds Evangelicals have backed Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, both of whom were managed by Laudner. Both won, but neither got any bounce...

Takeaway from the article:
He has at least one captain in each of the 1,682 precincts in the state. Each will have the name and contact information of 40 or more residents by February 1st.

Santorum won four years ago with 27,000 total caucus votes.

If Trump even gets just an average of 20 votes per precinct, that will be 33,640 votes. His campaign says that have 40 or more contacts in each precinct.

While the evangelical turnout produced winners in the past, Trump has potential to swamp them if he can get enough new voters into the process.

Very interesting. Good article.

Wapo poll that showed Trump killing the field also showed him getting 34 t9 Cruz’s 20 with Evangelicals nationwide of course but not very comforting for Cruz supporters.

Interesting, I wouldn’t have expected that. I like both Trump and Cruz and none of the others. But I see more leadership qualities in Trump.
