Congress should consider buying firearms for low-income people so 100 million Americans could be part of state-based militias to fight âIslamists,â Coloradoâs former 6th District Congressman Tom Tancredo wrote Dec. 4 in Breitbart.
âTerrorists and criminals already know how to obtain guns, so why not help the defenseless? If we can afford food stamps and housing subsidies, why not gun stamps to help urban citizens survive the next Islamist assault?â
Tancredo, who supports a second civil war if Barack Obama or any other president ever confiscated guns, has a long track record of objecting to government paying for food or health care for those need. But apparently gun welfare is A-OK with him....

Is that in addition to the 110 million Americans who are already armed?
Kewl beans!
Congressman Nukemecca... Hmmmmm
Sorry. Not in favor.
The government would screw this up big time and we would see guns going to illegals and muslims and other people who shouldn’t be getting them.
Pretty much all the people I’d like to see with guns already have them. This program would provide guns to the people who shouldn’t have them.
What we really need is free lawyers to anyone who wants one. The government should take over the legal industry (and destroy it) the way they’ve taken over the health care industry.
Poor people in D.C. (and other similar places) can finely(S) own guns, they just can’t take them down the street.
Like Hubert H. Humphrey and John F. Kennedy?
"By calling attention to 'a well regulated militia,' the 'security' of the nation, and the right of each citizen 'to keep and bear arms,' our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the Second Amendment will always be important."President John F. Kennedy
---------------------------------------------------
"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible."
Vice President and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey
Gotta agree. As Reagan famously remarked, "The nine scariest words in the English language are: I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."
Fedgov FUBARs everything it touches.
Besides, Americans are doing a wonderful job of arming themselves, and don't need anyone's help to get prepared.
Congress should consider buying firearms for low-income people . . . .
What could go wrong with that?
its far from a perfect plan, but it would further undercut the crazy gun-grabbers ...you could say it would be sort of a tit-for-tat ... using the same ‘government giveaway’ technique....that the (mostly the same) people use or support now.... giving birth-control medicines and free abortions to our children in the public schools
Most dangerous words from government. “We’re from the government and we’re here to help”. We don’t need government buying guns for people
You have obviously never owned rental property in a liberal state.
Legal aid will provide free counsel and representation to deadbeat tenants so they can stay free in my units, while using taxes from me to pay the lawyers.
And each one of those gun owners own more than one gun, in fact most of those gun owners have enough to let their friends borrow "just in case."
In any event our feral government is screwed.
If you think about it ... :-) ... one shot each is a lot of lead.
Aim small, miss small.
an uzi in every stocking..I want one...
The US federal government has already been promoting civilian rifle marksmanship for years... http://thecmp.org/about/
"Congress should consider buying firearms for low-income people so 100 million Americans "
Sounds like one of my proposed Amendments - disarm the civilian FedGov, all except the Armed Services ( yes, that includes FBI, BATF, DEA, EPA, Secret Service ). If they need weapons, they can carry tasers. If they need firearms, they can call the local police.
There is a MASSIVE amount of fireamrs held by these agencies and they need not one of them. Redistribute them to the citizens.
No. A better idea would be to give States tax break incentives to rebuild their State militias.
We’lll take it from there.
A “conservative” welfare program is still a handout and misuse of government power.
Well, he’s a bit late to the dance with that statement.
I would prefer the gubmint give me an adequate ammunition supply, I’ll take care of the rest. All they have to do is hear me say, “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition”.
