I am going to have my right eye lens removed and replaced this morning because a cataract has grown rapidly in the last six months obscuring my vision somewhat. I can still see through that eye but daylight glare has made it very difficult to discern things on the dashboard of my car.
That cataract in that eye is in the center of the field of view and when the background light is bright, things tend to get faded out. As a result my vision in that eye could only be corrected to 20/40 on my last visit to my optometrist and was worsening. Looking at my dashboard I just barely make out my speedometer and tach and the blue LED odometer and distance until empty, also in a blue LED were invisible.
I have another cataract in my left eye that is a halo coming from the periphery inward. That will have to be done as soon as possible after the right is healed.
I have worn glasses since I was eight year's old and I was hoping I could opt for the multi-focal replacement lens, but the surgeon explained that my severe myopiaminus 12 diopters, think coke bottle lenses in my glasseswould make success of that problematic, maybe only 15% chance, that I would have to settle for the much less expensive regular replacement lenses. . . and have to wear reading glasses. RATS. Still, it will be something new not to have to wear glasses for distance.
Pray for me that I don't hear the surgeon say "Oops!" during the surgery today, which will be sometime around 10:45AM Pacific Time.
Prayers up. I’m maybe a year away from needing a replacement lens m’self.
Keep us posted.
Fear not...this surgery is very routine now and very successful almost every time. I’ve seen this quick developing cataract in a few family members, and all had great results.
Good luck, and prayers up!
Our family will be praying for you for a speedy recovery!
Going to need that soon myself.
VA keeps telling me they aren’t “ripe” enough.
Good luck. Tell us how it goes.

Lord, let it go well, and let Swordmaker feel peace.
Swordmaker, may I offer a prayer?
Dear Heavenly Father, we ask You today to look over our friend, Swordmaker. Give skill to his surgeon and nurses. Please heal his eyes. In This I pray. Amen.
**FWIW.. I’ve known several relatives who got the surgery. One was more nervous than a dog pooping peach pitts (he only had one eye so he was afraid an oops would make him fully blind). ALL said it was easier than expected. ALL said if they had it to do over, they would have done it a long time ago instead of waiting. ALL said the recovery was easy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.. you will do fine. Hugs, Mom
Praying for you Swordmaker
I know a number of people who have had this done and all of them came out of it with good vision.
Cataract surgery is a piece of cake. You’ll be so thrilled with the first one that you won’t want to wait for the second.
A guy’s wife had it several years ago.
The surgeon gave her a souvenir. It was a bit of the suture material with some finely tied knots.
Dang.. the “one eye” probably didn’t ease any anxiety without explanation. He had one eye (a working one, the other was glass) because of a childhood accident. NOT from a surgery. I just wanted to clarify, hon.
It’s why I’m content to wait.
Actually, here in Atlanta a lot of the Dr.s come
from Emory.
I’ve only got medicare and VA.
live on SS and VA.

you’ll be fine.
Praying for you now.
It's no longer considered necessary for the cataracts to "ripen"....when I learned that from wifey's surgeon, I immediately got my peepers repaired also....20/20 is great, but we went with the type of implant that still requires reading glasses - due to a higher incidence of complications with the total correction lenses.
Prayers sent!
Good luck with that. I had the surgery a few years back.
I had one eye get a lens for long distance focus, and one for short distance and reading. This has worked well for me, but may not be for everybody.
