If we abandon Godliness, we will surely abandon liberty, for without morality, we are incapable of freedom
Benjamin Franklin said that only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. Franklin understood the importance of a moral society, and how secularism may seem free on the surface, but that a society that abandons the Laws of Nature by Natures God ultimately leads themselves to bondage, under human masters and tyrannical statism. The Founding Fathers recognized the truth about human nature, primarily viewing it from a classical Christian angle.
Our rights are self-evident, but so is the fact that while humans are potentially decent, we also have darker inclinations that pose as a threat to ourselves, and society at large. The Book of Romans says we all fall short of the Glory of God, and for some, that may seem to be an understatement. Humans cannot be trusted with power, and are downright destructive when in possession of unrestricted power.

A long but excellent article. Thanks.
Long but worth the read.
Exactly!
I'm surprised he didn't connect the collapse of freedom and folding of all powers into Washington, DC made possible by the 17th Amendment.
As for the lack of widespread virtue, corruption of the people begins at the top. Scotus drove Christianity out of schools, Scotus legalized infanticide . . . .
There be whales here ... why not post the 17th, with comments suitable to your assertion. Washington is not indicted until the charges are read to the court. [The subPreme court is owned now by the oligarchy holding the blackmail files.]
Great and timely article! Unfortunately, I just don’t see us turning back. The pain level sufficient to bring repentance at this point is the pain level that goes with destruction and ruin and a lost nation/country. We are behaving just like Israel before going into the Babylonian captivity. Afterward, repentance will be on an individual basis but the nation will be lost forever. Individually and corporately we are either an object lesson for good or ill. Blessed or cursed with power to choose. However, for the faithful, a better Day is just around the corner.
