Presidential candidate and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said on Wednesday that he has never seen a Hispanic person begging for money on the street.
"I don't think I've ever seen an Hispanic panhandler. And the reason is: In our community it would be shameful to be begging on the street," Cruz said.
Cruz, who is of Cuban descent, made the point while speaking in Washington at a question-and-answer session with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
He used the example to argue the Republican Party should be able to compete for the Latino vote. Hispanics, Cruz said, share many of the same values that are championed by GOP leaders....

I”ve never seen a Greek panhandler either for that matter.
I have. Was panhandled by a Hispanic yesterday.
There’s an old Brazilian man who occasionally hangs out and begs in front of a local Shell station/convenience store.
Haven’t seen him in a number of months, but he always creeped me out.
I have in Mexico.
Wonder if he spends any time outside the Home Depot?
I guess that means we can let them all stay?
Here in New York City, most are black or white.
A lot of Hispanics are motivated enough to get on welfare.
I suppose the exception proves the rule. I live in a very Hispanic area, so I would have noticed them.
I have. In fact, it’s becoming a common occurance for this particular young latino family to stand in the parking lot or near the entrance with a sign in english and spanish ‘Please Help Us”.
I have.
That was a really stupid thing for Cruz to say.
It will hurt his campaign.
never had a Mexican beg for money on staten island. they work day and night but get drunk bad. but of course I wouldn’t see the gang members because they are in bad neighborhoods. I know that 100,000 crimes by illegals committed in Texas alone?
they work so hard so many but they are still illegal!!! but the legal ones like indians are smug and take high paying jobs from Americans for less. I am confused on the issue lol
Not without offering something in exchange for money.
I have where I live. Plenty of them on the corners with signs that read: 6 children please help. (I will say it is usually women)
Thats not panhandling. Thats hanging out waiting to get a paying job. You don’t see a difference?
The ones at Home Depot, Lowes and similar are seeking work. Is that “panhandling” in your mind?
Maybe Cruz has decided to agree with Jeb Bush’s estimate about Mexican illegals and Americans: the illegals are superior in every way.
