Rand Paul receives standing ovation as he delivers libertarian message to New Hampshire faithful
UK Telegraph ^ | April 19, 2015 | David Millward

Rand Paul rounded on the Republican establishment as he made his pitch for the support of party activists in the key state of New Hampshire.

From appearing in jeans to delivering a withering attack on the record of other Republicans, the Kentucky senator made sure he stood out from his rivals.

"I got tired of seeing people in my party getting in charge and not doing anything at all," he told activists at the party's “Leadership Summit” in Nashua, New Hampshire.

"They all look alike, the all sound alike, they all dress alike and nothing ever changes."

Mr Paul was the latest of the Republican hopefuls to make his pitch for the backing of activists in a state which will set the tone for the race for the party's nomination next year. A strong showing in the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucus will give a candidate a huge advantage in a crowded field, while a weak performance frequently proves fatal to an aspirant's chances. ...

One crack, aimed at Hillary Clinton – “she travels in two planes, one for her and her entourage and another for her baggage” – even drew applause from one of the waitresses serving coffee to the party faithful.

In common with his rivals, Mr Paul delivered a low tax, minimal government speech.

He attacked the last two Republican nominees for the Oval Office for failing to promise lower taxes in their election campaigns.

But then he diverged from the views of many present as he made clear his opposition to surveillance – something which many Republicans believe is vital to the country's security.

“It is none of the government's damn business what you are doing on your phone,” he said.

Over a year and half must pass before the next presidential election. That's an eternity in politics. No one can see that far. If they could, they'd have already picked the winning horse of the 2016 Kentucky Derby and bet the farm thereon.

A betting man told me to expect the unexpected in the Nov 2016 election. When I asked for more, he said, "You'll see." Wise man.

Quotes from article:

"They all look alike, the all sound alike, they all dress alike and nothing ever changes."

“It is none of the government's damn business what you are doing on your phone,”

“Every time we have toppled a secular dictator, we have got chaos.”

I’m afraid I’d have to agree with his statements.

Screw libertarians.

After John Stossel’s rant about how Christians aren’t under attack and things are better for us under Obama than they’ve ever been before, I’m pretty much done with their liberalism.

He then went on to complain about states that don’t sell alcohol on Sunday. Apparently those all important state powers that libertarians claim to like so much don’t matter when the states impose laws that libertarians don’t like.

Rand Paul has shown a propensity to do the same with his attempt to make felon voting rights a national issue when the constitution leaves it up to the states. (I say that as a former felon who legally votes and actually knows what I’m talking about)

Rand Paul is consistent.

“Rand Paul to steer clear of Mississippi runoff”

“Rand Paul: It’s a ‘misnomer’ to say McConnell isn’t conservative”

“Rand Paul To Campaign for Romney”

March, 2013—”Rand Paul endorses Mitch McConnell in 2014 Senate race, won’t back tea party challenge”

“A week after about 150 tea party activists rallied in opposition to U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander’s re-election” “Rand Paul of Kentucky said here Monday that he hopes Alexander doesn’t get an opponent and wins re-election.”

If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals — if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.”

I see the extremes of conservatism and libertarianism as both being flawed. I prefer to follow the constitution and the first ten amendments, and call it what you will. (Liberals Progressives socialists Marxists being the total antithesis of the constitution)

I am still pissed at Bush for finishing daddy’s war when we had bin laden to dig out of Afghanistan and Pakistan. And we never hit the al qaeda training camps in Saudi and Egypt. zer0 has done a fine job destabilizing the region....but Bush did a good job of it in Iraq

I always knew Stossel was a flake. Evidently he's a full-bore lunatic.

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...
