My daughter will turn 19 this month. She is our fifth child. She has also been the most worrying to us as she started using drugs a long time ago. She said she first smoked weed at age 12. Since then she has gone on the try many other drugs to include meth, cocaine, pills and LSD and a few others I can’t name. Last year she was in intensive care for 8 days. She has also been in jail about seven or eight times and gone through rehab twice. She is currently living with her mother and I at home but things are getting very tense. She broke up with her boyfriend and says that the stress of breakup makes her want to go get high and chill with her friends. Her friends are not true friends as they are also on drugs. Every time she hangs out with them she stays wasted for a couple days and I had to take her to the ER twice due to overdose on alcohol. Add to all this she has been beat up several times and raped twice that she has admitted to. When you add into this chaos the fact that my wife suffers from a mental illness which is made worse with stress it gets even more chaotic. Now I am at the point where I will soon have to make the choice of allowing my wife to be hospitalized because of her mental illness or I put my daughter out because of the strife she is causing. We’ve offered her all the help in the world and she continues to go on binges and tell us that what we offer won’t help. The last time she got wasted she told us all to “Go f***” ourselves. That night she left the house and was brought home by the police when they found her walking down the highway. As a parent I love my daughter endlessly. But I don’t see how (or why) I should continue to allow her to destroy the rest of the family. But at the same time I feel guilty for what I am considering. We can’t force her into treatment as she is an “adult” and I’m afraid that she will either end up in prison or dead. All this started I believe because she started smoking weed. The weed lowered her inhibitions and resistance and she started doing other drugs. So I truly believe that weed is a gateway drug and should never be legalized. If someone needs it for medicinal purposes they should have to go to a pharmacy for it just like we do with other prescription medications. It hurts me to do it, but I think I may be evicting her from the house today when I get home from work.
I agree and those same people are not even conservatives, they’re libs:{liberals and libertarians} Or the other is war on drugs has failed therefore in their mind we should just give up on all drugs, sex laws, borders, terrorism etc
I don’t reply to them.
I can relate to this guy as the same happened to my sister. Cannabis to Heroin, to Prison, to losing her kids and her kids had to breathe that crap in as well and now they have to suffer.

Another lame excuse from the deluded pot heads. Just because something is natural doesn't mean it is harmless. There are many harmful things in nature, some deadly.
Prayers for your family during these difficult trials, try to remember that this battle is not against flesh and blood but powers and principalities.

When I was a youngster, I had a cousin whom everyone dearly loved. Though raised in a large upper middle class family, she went down the drug road, being sent to the county slammer numerous times during her lifetime, apparently for petty theft and prostitution.
Her parents repeatedly tried to help her, and all she did was steal from them and break their hearts. Her brother and sisters all tried to help her, and all she did was steal from them and break their hearts. Eventually, they all were forced into total estrangement to protect themselves and decided to think of her as literally dead. The court took her children from her and awarded them to her ex-husband.
Now, she has Hep C, is disabled, lives off of welfare and gets “free” everything from the government, including “free” medical care. Her siblings, who work and are not well off, are infuriated that they are paying taxes for all of her “free” stuff.
Her siblings all turned out to be wonderful people. She and they were all raised in the same household in the same way by their two parents, two wonderful people. She was beloved by everyone because she had a great personality and a great sense of humor until she turned to drugs. It wasn’t anything her parents or siblings did to cause this. She did it to herself.
I loved her greatly myself then and still miss who she was even today, but I cut her out of my life in order to protect myself once she turned into a drug addict.
A tragic and true story, and unfortunately, it sounds that there may be a similar outcome in your situation. Should that be the case, prepare to have your hearts broken or harden yourselves against your daughter, and cut her out of your life to save yourselves; you probably can not save her.
People do drugs cause it numbs the inner pain in their lives.
Anger is also a way people deal with pain.
She needs to get some good Christian counseling and find out what the issues are that are hurting her and deal with them. When the root issues are dealt with, the need for the drugs will subside, although if she’s actually addicted to stuff, that’s going to be hard to overcome.
She absolutely is on a course that’s going to destroy her life and needs help.
You all need some serious prayer.

My youngest son is the most honest about matters like this, with us, since he has seen what it can do to destroy a person, a family, a marriage.
Most of his friends got into drugs at a very young age, and were in and out of jail, way before they were 30 years old. He used to smoke pot in college and flunked out, because pot makes you want to just sit around and smoke pot and eat munchies. He turned his life around and no longer smokes, drinks, cusses, lies, speeds, etc. He is a much more adultlike person than I am! LOL
He works with a group that feeds the homeless in his town, and has been on mission trips, two to Haiti. He went to Miss. and La. after Katrina to help with the clean up. He went to Mexico to help poor people build homes. He went to Arrowhead Ca after fires to help with clean up. He has seen the best and worst of people.
He saw what drugs, alcohol, even pot, did to his friends. Most of them would never touch another drop of wine, even Communion Wine! It was hard for most of them to find a job with arrests and imprisonment on their records.
One of them just got his wife back, she had left him years ago. They are only in their 20s and last month they celebrated one year back together. He never gave up on her.
They are all active in their church. Except for one, who fell back and used drugs and alcohol, beat up his lady, and went back to jail for a year. I haven’t heard how he is doing.
These young men learned at the School of Hard Knocks.
One of our neighbors, CG, 23 years old, was driving drunk and or stoned and had a one car wreck, and he died. Another one was driving under the influence of Xanax and ran into a parked car and the daughter was killed and the son was badly injured. Our neighbor JT was sent to prison for 20 years because he plead guilty. He has been in prison since 2010, an only child, this has been horrible for his mom and dad.
Drugs kill.
You are RIGHT! I think that people are searching for God, they think drugs will fill that empty void, where God belongs.
A friend in Colorado told us how horrible things are there due to legal pot. Car wrecks all over the place! Deadly!
Jesse Waters on Fox news went to one of the Colorado Pot Rallies or whatever they call them.
He said no one there cared about anything but pot, and magic mushrooms, and no one there could REMEMBER what they did LAST WEEK!
By the way, without the pot and alcohol, he finished college and his last year or two had all A’s. Cannot do that while stoned.

I had some friends when I was in college who started pot and they turned from bright motivated kids who were doing well in college, to dropouts who the only thing they cared about was getting laid and where their next drink and high was coming from.
I try to keep in mind when I meet people who are difficult to deal with or who are engaged in self-destructive behaviors, that they are dealing with junk in their lives.
But for the grace of God, go I.
When I look back and see how close I came to becoming involved in that drug culture and destroying my life, I THANK GOD for sparing me and having His hand on my life at a time when I didn’t even care if He existed.
I remember that YOU are among a handful of FReepers who equate erroneous conclusions with facts.
If you pulled that stunt on a witness stand, the judge would eventually cite you with contempt of court, and rightly. Here, you only show your contempt for truth and honesty.
Folks HERE accurately cite you with HYPOCRISY. Since you are against drugs, if you really meant it, you would be has hot against alcohol as you are against pot, since it is PROVEN to be every bit as destructive and dangerous.
When you have to bear false witness to win an argument -- which you DO, as your posts here illustrate -- then you are clearly on the wrong side. You add hypocrisy to the list by refusing to hold alcohol in EXACTLY the same contempt as you do marijuana.
If I was like you, I'd be accusing you of supporting and advocating alcoholism. But I'd be lying, just as YOU ARE LYING when you say "some freepers equate water and meth as equally dangerous."
