Support for Police
self

Posted on 12/30/2014 3:39:23 PM PST by woofie

I got to thinking about it and decided I could do something simple and straightforward to affect a bit of change.

I stopped at a bakery this morning and bought a whole pie (Key Lime). I stuck it in the car and decided the first policeman I saw I would give it to him and say thanks.

It took a while but I just completed the mission.

I pulled up along side of a squad car and waved at the policeman. Then simply got out, approached him and handed him the box.

I told him with all the news about the police going around I wanted him and his fellow officers to know some of us were grateful for what they are doing for us. And I asked him to share it with his buddies....

He seemed most grateful and I am hoping the word will go out to all the men and women there and that they will get a lift from it.

For those who haven't heard, the Albuquerque police force was recently investigated by the justice department after a shooting of a homeless man was video taped and put on Youtube. We had our version of protests etc about it all with a full scale shake up of the police.

You can read about it but I would say we were on the cutting edge of the Ferguson/ New York/ police/racist/ riot/murder/ fiasco.

The shooting on tape is horrific and I have no qualms with discipline, procedural reviews, and more training imposed. But in the 60 odd years I have been in this world Ive concluded that where there are people, bad things can happen. And since the police are out there on the front lines 24 hours a day dealing with all kinds of people in my view its miraculous that more bad things don't happen.

Its a testament to the hard work and skill of our police forces that so much good is done every single day.

So to the police everywhere in the USA you have my thanks and not my condemnation and I hope more of us out there recognize and appreciate all that you do.

Anyone who wants, can join me for the cost of desert.

I’d suggest buying them gift cards for a nice coffee place or etc. because (and I mean no offense) they might not be too trusting of any food items they get from a stranger.

I’ve often considered a similar gesture when pulled over for a traffic violation.

In the present Al Sharpton-Holder-Obama-Can’t-Breath political environment, if I were a uniformed cop, I definitely wouldn’t eat anything given to me by a stranger.

But its a nice thought

Get them a Starbucks card. I see a lot of policemen coming in and out of the Starbucks here ... :-) ...

As someone else said, I would definitely be suspicious of any food given.

I’ve often considered a similar gesture when pulled over for a traffic violation.

When I hand over my drivers license at a traffic stop, I always include a $20 folded behind the license. If the officer asks, oppsss my bad, how did that get there???

in our small town diner , cops, military an firemen get their meals paid for by patrons on a regular basis...... they know our community supports them.

We have some great public servants ......very lucky.

100% Support for our first responders.

I would hope that they wouldn’t be accepting payoffs like that, although from what I saw in the restaurant business, I imagine that they would accept gift cards and cash as well.

Couldn’t you just thank them, and give the money to someone who needs it, perhaps the Salvation Army, or pro-life, or some government guy who isn’t in a union, but still accepts gratuities from the taxpayers?

And they accept them, I know, it disgusted me to see them hustle free everything when I was in restaurants.

Whenever I’m in a restaurant and I see cops having a meal, I always pick up the tab (anonymously). I try to do the same with military folks in uniform (never try this on a reserve weekend unless you are rich ... LOL!).

It’s nice of you to go out of your way for cops...as if they need some hugs and kisses.

They are their own class. They are not civilians. They will always look down at you.

I was in a gov building today. The first time I was there so I wasn’t aware of their entrance and exits. I was heading towards what I thought was an exit door and a cop started screaming at me. Just then I saw a hand written sign pasted on the door saying “not an exit”. That cop wanted my ID. I thought he was going to arrest me he was so brusk. He made sure that he escorted me out as if I had the plague.

Cops think too much of themselves.
They shouldn’t be killed because they’re cops.
They should be avoided at all cost.
Buncha babies.

Great idea, Megan...on the gift cards.

Thanks, woofie, for the idea of showing our thanks to our brave policemen and women.
