To be a one issue voter is to be narrow minded.

We must not be against, we must be for

I have seen and heard the man up close........ we will be hard pressed to find anyone better overall. He is brilliant. He is conservative. He has I believe strong money backing.

Personally, I think I prefer the governor, Rick Perry with Dr Ben a very close second. Perry has grit. Dr Ben has what I perceive as brilliant guile.

My thought is that it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to be president, but if the very best brain surgeon volunteers, take him up on it

Aside from his anti-2nd Amendment remarks and his slobbering over Jesse Jackson as a “great civil rights leader”, the guy is so calming that he puts me to sleep.

I’m not going to fall head over heels for any politician, declaring my love and trust. Why would you trust this guy? Do you know him?

Conservatives have to maintain a little perspective; the folks we send to Washington are our employees, not idols. As much as I like Ted Cruz, I understand he’s a human being.

May I ask why you would vote for someone who believes that the Second Amendment doesn’t apply if you live in certain areas (cities)? See the quote elsewhere in the thread. He was interviewed by Glenn Beck and said that he didn’t believe in people in certain areas owning certain guns.

He doesn’t believe in the basics of our nation. Why do you think he’d be good at protecting any freedom if he is okay taking away one of the most basic freedoms?

I love Ted Cruz but IMHO my money this time around is for Scott Walker.

Me too.

Despite what some Freepers would like to think, there aren't nearly enough Texases, Idahos and West Virginias to get to 270 electoral votes. This is why I'm not yet sold on Cruz as a candidate.

We have to start picking off some "purple" states, and need a candidate who has a track record of convincing the swing voters in those states that sound financial policy and limited government is the only recipe for prosperity.

And Dr Carson? I like ya a lot, Ben, but you're not presidential material, not yet.

He said something about the 2nd amendment not applying to the inner-cities. Since he hasn’t been around long, it is hard to gauge his record.

I remember the hubbub it caused. I would hope it was an off-the-cuff, no time to think it out type comment. Many who call themselves constitutionalists fall into traps where their sensibilities may be pushing them into potentially un-constitutional memes until they have time to sort it out.

Definitely needs addressed though.

When you have the perfect candidate who can also win, let me know. Until then adios.

...why do you bother to follow events on FreeRepublic

Riiiight. What you wrote is no different than asking why I voted, or anyone else for that matter.

I am cynical because voter turnout for Conservatives is ALWAYS appalling and the rest of this country will soon make us impotent just like my home state. The simple fact of the matter is that Republicans are non-performers and have demonstrated both anti-Conservative ideals and anti-Conservative-politician actions.

I've seen NOTHING to shift it the other direction. Hope is emotional and I restrain my emotional reaction to the theater we are presented. My 'hope' is conditional & slim. I clearly qualified that in my comment with, "“Feet to the fire” is my mantra. Things change in 90 days or they never change. ..."

There is a distinct difference between engaging in character destruction and vetting a candidate.

If you are unaware of the difference, I suspect you engage in the former much more frequently than the latter.

Yeh I was a little put off when I heard him say he wasn’t sure what kinds of weapons were really OK for the general public to own.

Ben Carson needs to run for the US House or Senate first and then get a voting record going so we can all make an informed decision about him.

(B) We will probably not see another black president in at least a generation. Is that fair? Perhaps not, but there it is.

Hmmmm. A generation. 25 years. Long enough for 6 single term presidents. One is six is about 16%, blacks make up about 12% of the population. So yeah, if the selection was totally random, (which given recent history would be an improvement!) we're more apt to not see a black president than see one in that time frame.

Nice guy, glad to have him on our side, but not really Presidential material - has no experience running a campaign and no track record as an executive in or out of government.

Walker is looking good so far, Martinez, and Haley too. I’ll be checking their records for sure and keeping an eye on them, to see how the react in emergencies and under fire.

It may be the long week and that to come, but due to your prior tone I am interpreting that as condescension.

Is it?

Actually, it's quite sincere.

I cannot imagine living without at least a dram of optimism. I you believe there is nothing to look forward to politically, what's the point of following it?

I wouldn't wish to believe that defeat is inevitable...
