Its busting out on to the wires today. Holder is resigning, effective as soon as his replacement can be confirmed.
He had to do this now, rather than wait until after the midterms, because Holders tenure as Attorney General has been marked by a pattern of activist Leftism and constitutional/legal abuse such as has never been seen in American history, and if there is a Republican majority in the Senate next year theyre not going to be able to confirm anyone like him. The current Labor Secretary, Thomas Perez, who used to be the head of the Civil Rights Division within DOJ, would be the first-round draft choice to replace Holder but Perez would never be confirmed by a Republican Senate majority.
But in a Senate Harry Reid controls, sure.
Erick Erickson has this absolutely right
The only reason Eric Holder would do this now, before the mid-term elections, is if he was pretty sure hed have to deal with a Republican Senate next year. A nomination and confirmation fight is just another area to be politicized before the 2014 mid-terms when the nation has turned against Barack Obama on a host of issues and Republicans are revving up attacks on both the IRS and Benghazi. It means a potential loss of control on another front when the Democrats are already on defense across the country. That instability does not happen unless the people in positions to control this decision see headwinds against them.
Eric Holder resigning is another sign the Democrats are worried about having to deal with a Republican Senate majority in January.
Understand this if you had an Attorney General who was interested in faithfully executing his oath of office rather than serving as the palace guard for the Obama administration, you would have special prosecutors investigating the IRS scandal, the NSA, the James Rosen surveillance case, Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the GSA scandal and several others. The corruption within the administration has been covered up by Holder as he focuses his efforts on destroying school choice and stopping states from implementing highly-popular Voter ID laws is absolutely endemic, and it is unpunished because Holder keeps it that way.
This administration simply cannot afford not to have an Attorney General who will continue to hold the line as Holder has. And if it were to lose the Senate before replacing Holder, it would be forced to appoint someone either incapable or less-than-willing to serve as Obamas protector.
And Holder not sticking it out until after the midterms, as Erickson says, means Obama thinks hes lost the Senate. Holder goes, theyre going to make a run at appointing Perez or somebody like him and getting them confirmed in the lame-duck session and theyll hope thats enough to keep the house of cards from collapsing.
Funny, that was my first thought also. Get a replacement in before Republicans take over and force someone actually honest to take the job.
Mass Gov Duval Patrick is reportedly flying to DC.... Replacement?
Eric might be leaving now to Avoid Prosecution!
Maybe he wants to join ISIS...
They have more faith in a Republican-controlled Senate remaining resolute and standing firm than I do.
The corruption and vote-rigging needed for the Left keep the Senate will be too great for even Holder to sweep under the rug. He doesn’t want a part of it.
Mine too.
A small group of Republicans (Cruz, Lee, Sessions, Paul, etc) might be able to bottle up such a nomination by running down the clock in the lame duck. There’s a LOT of ground that needs to be covered, not a heck of a lot of time to cover them in, and things will need to happen concurrantly. So filibuster the legislation as much as possible to deny the time necessary to conduct any sort of debate and vote on nominees.
(P)residential pardon for anything in the past or future to be issued as soon as eric the red is actually gone. I’m sure it has nothing to do with F&F. Or does the process have to be restarted with the new guy comes in. Delaying tactic for statute of limitations?
But what about the new rule passed, the nuclear option, which bans filibusters on presidential nominees? This seems like something they will do in the lame duck session.
Well, the social “agenda” must roll “forward” so I would not be the least bit surprised if the next attorney general was am African American woman or openly gay Asian, or what have you.
King Obama will make another more communists and corrupt replacement for Holder and other offices before the Senate changes to Republican. One of the first things the Republicans must do is try to stall the appointment. Start impeachment of King Obama in the House and work on it until the Senate is Republican. Then cause hell to break loose with King Obama impeachment.
Expose, censure and impeach Holder.
And if he thinks it is lost, he has already made plans to double-down on his ruling by Executive Decree
Yep, I knew that Holder would be replaced with another Obama sycophant.
A Repub majority could be just moronic enough to confirm him.
It’s the people who vote for these Progressives that are the problem.
IMHO
IRS and Benghazi facts are out he can’t hide them time to go on the run wonder what country he’ll go to?.
