American Jews overwhelmingly tend to vote Democrat for one simple reason: they see the choice as being between 1) the Democrats and their belief in nothing versus 2) the Republicans and their beliefs based on their Christian faith and heritage.
Given that choice, then, rather than side with people of faith which they see as a different and potentially antagonistic belief system they feel safer in the party that is devoid of any values or convictions.
The thinking behind this is that, if people believe in things then they might fight for those things. They might even commit atrocities in their name. Only those who believe in nothing have nothing to kill or fight for. If everyone just believed in nothing, the thinking goes: then the Jews would be safe, for if one doesnt believe in anything then they cant believe the Jews are bad.
These people believe that it is beliefs and not what was believed that led to the Holocaust and to all of the other worlds atrocities. Its why the Modern Liberals Blueprint for Utopia as rendered by John Lennon sought a world without countries, religions or any other values or convictions (just all the people living for today.)

Cool. It will be interesting to see what you conclude. Like I said the problem with exit polling for Jews in rural voting areas might be finding a high enough % to compare to urban areas. They might not even have a separate category, but use ‘other.’

My 2 cents. The Jews I’ve known from EASTERN Europe have all had a strong masochistic streak.
In everyday life they tolerate unending abuse from their boyfriends and piously hurry back to the table to generously tip a server who slammed down your plates, flounced off and were not seen again until time for the check. (and yeah, they also vote dim)
Right. I think within any group, those who are most observant/rigorous about their faith tend to vote more conservatively.
I’m not even sure if the Amish or old order Mennonites vote at all or which side they tend to vote for if they do vote. But they do live in the country at a very high%, so it’s plausible that the general rural/urban split might be at least some sort of factor with them. Like I said, I don’t know of any other group that lives in urban areas at such high % as Jews. You would think that it might be at least part of the reason with why they tend to vote the way they do.

Not true. He was raised Catholic by his mom, but turned to atheism and occult worship in his twenties in Vienna.

It should be noted the the Jewish population of the United States is largely concentrated in urban areas. About 80% of the Jewish population lives in 20 cities. Twelve of the twelve largest cities in America have Democrat mayors. Nearly 60% live in 6 metropolitan areas, NY/NJ, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami (Republican mayor), Boston and Chicago. If you think these cities are Democrat because a small minority of citizens are Jewish you're missing the point. They largely vote like their neighbors.
I keep this quote on my about page:
The Progressive movement is a conspiracy of ideas to forge a Global Culture in direct opposition to the G-d of Israel and His Law. -FReeper Torahman
Probably more an urban/rural divide. Check Congressional district results, though religious stats are hard to come by and unreliable.
I suppose a nominal Catholic, but in reality a pagan. In no way was he acting in accordance with the teachings of the Church, which is the real issue.
The Jews were part of the democrat party and the left, generations before that time.
Many Jews believe that Christians are anti-Semitic from the days when Europeans would kill them, especially after Easter, and they still see American conservatives as such.
There is an extreme cognitive lag. My husband is Jewish and we have a Jewish acquaintance, a very successful financial adviser, who sends out emails prolifically with extreme left leanings, despite being very vocal about being Jewish and pro-Israel. The latest missive was compassionate towards Palestinians. It’s his knee jerk reaction not to defend self-defense and liberty.
That’s just a polite way to say that it is the Religion of Satan.
It isn’t an urban versus rural divide, it is a liberal, non-liberal divide.
Like all the strange excuses for Jews voting left, that one doesn't hold up when one looks at 150 years of history.
The democrat party did not become a party of the non-religious or anti-Christian, until very modern times.
Yes, I know. Jews can be a problematic people. As an evangelical Christian I believe they are God’s original chosen people to bring blessing to the world. They emphasize education and learning and compromise the intellectual professions way out of proportion to their numbers. They have been hated and scourged throughout their history. Many Jews have blessed nations with their political, scientific, and artistic abilities. They have also gifted us with marxism, hollywood leftist ideas and a variety of modern ills. All in all I pray for the peace of Jerusalem and believe they have messianic blessings upon them. People of darkness always hate the Jews first and most.
“BS. Savage nailed it. American jews brought a lot of cultural baggage with them from the old world, including an unhealthy dose of communist thought which persists to this day.”
I hate to agree with Savage, but that is more likely.
It is exacerbated by being urban.
Ironically, the reason we are urban is we were forbidden to own/work land in Europe and so had to work the trades — which is also why trade names like “Smith” (and its infinite versions -— Goldsmith, Schmidt, etc), Miller, Cooper, Sandler, are so common among Jewish people.
See my post above why Jewish people -— who are, by nature, a near nomadic people — are urban today.
I always wondered WHY the Jews would vote for anyone who would take their guns?
I read a book finally and it all boiled down to the fact that they are liberal over and above being Jewish.
I don’t understand it at all.
I’m sure urban living contributes to the Left side politics of many American Jews.
Your comment about rural Jews possibly being more Conservative made me chuckle.
The first thing I thought about was the Israeli kibbutzim, which are (usually) farming communities constructed on Marxist principles!
I’ve seen all that, and do agree he had occult tendencies.
But Hitler was baptized, confirmed, and even regularly attended the Catholic Church Church as an adult. He buried his mother as a Catholic and had numerous Catholic ceremonies and blessings of other Nazis by various priests.
Was he sincere Catholic? Of course not.
I think he used the trappings of the Church (and of Christianity overall) to give a sheen of respectability to his evil deeds, just like he used everyone and everything else.
Hence why I said “nominal Catholic.”
I’m Jewish, I have been voting regularly for over two decades, and I have never voted for a Democrat.
