...Towson University won the 2014 Cross Examination Debate Association's national championship. Towson defeated the University of Oklahoma. What was Towson's strategy? Inexplicably using the N-word over and over again in an incomprehensible tirade.
Here is an actual excerpt (with profanity redacted). See if you are able to tell what Towson is arguing in favor or against:
They say the n*****s always already qu***, that's exactly the point! It means the impact is that the that the is the impact term, uh, to the afraid, uh, the, that it is a case term to the affirmative because, we, uh, we're saying that qu*** bodies are not able to survive the necessarily means of the body. Uh, uh, the n***** is not able to survive.Have no idea what the person was arguing? Here, maybe another real excerpt will help you:
Uh, man's sole "jabringing" object disfigure religion trauma and nubs, uh, the, inside the trauma of representation that turns into the black child devouring and identifying with the stories and into the white culture brought up, uh, de de de de de, dink, and add subjectively like a white man, the black man!
Again, this is a national championship. The organization that holds the debate was founded over 40 years ago and has held national debate tournaments for decades.

Yada, yada, yada. Blah, blah, blah.
What were they debating? English as a third language?................
The debate was obviously about the effectiveness of articulate communication in the black community.
I’d say Towsend deserved the win. They exemplified the issue.
“Jive Turkey ain’t got no sense anyhow.”
Good Lord have mercy! What were the Oklahoma team’s statements like?
“They say the n*****s always already qu***, that’s exactly the point!”
Could someone maybe give me a hint as to what profane word begins with the letters q-u?
Incoherent. Makes me wonder if the judges were threatened.
I would guess queer. Is that the new Q word? Are us non-Q-word people not allowed to use Queer anymore?
Does that mean the car in my office parking lot with the “I’m Queer” bumper sticker is sexist or something?
Take one look at the driver and you won’t need a bumper sticker anyway.
Yep. They baters all right. And the team leaders are masta baters.
Some may even be rightly considered as cunning linguists.
NOTE: that is not an implication as to any participants’ sexual orientation [although, I’ve heard Lesbians make very good cabinet makers].
Totally bizarre. I’m guessing they won because their opponents were totally flabbergasted, unable to argue against total nonsense and unable to say a word without being judged racist.
Next year, it will be an all-black, all hip-hop competition.
That was just strange
"They argue that all black men are inherently homosexual, which is intentional. It is to persuade the listener that, as the homosexual is not able to reproduce to ensure their survival, neither is the black man."
Translated first paragraph from the raw Ebonics text.
Ok, anyone who watches that video can tell that this is not a traditional debate competition. You can put the words “National Championship” next to anything in order to give it legitimacy. Doesn’t mean it’s legitimate.
What’s happening with college debating reminds me of the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes. The Emperor is buck naked here, and no one involved has the courage to say one word about it.
Thank you. The Atlantic article explains it well.
I’m not saying the phenomenon makes sense, but the article explains how this nonsense came into play.
You might also be stunned to discover that their entire argument was plagerized. Someone else had kinda said that before they did.
Nah. ...
