HK guns are generally very fine but I have owned 2 which were dogs.

The first was an HK4 with a .32 and .22LR barrel. It worked fine with the .32 barrel but the .22LR was a jammer.

I also had a VP70 which had the worst trigger I have ever encountered. I think it was the first polymer pistol tho.

Could never get into DA pistols. The trigger always feels like it’s not connected to anything. Love my Glocks though. Just got a G30S.

The problem with DA pistols is staging* the trigger after shooting them at targets for a while. The time used up in staging the trigger can be the time-delay that makes you dead in a combat situation.

* that is: first cocking the hammer with the initial, heavy-pull part of the trigger travel, then sighting, and finally firing.

The VP70 was originally designed as a true machine pistol. When the detachable stock was put on,the thing ran 3 round bursts at some ridiculous high rate of fire.I have to agree about the poor trigger.

I have a Walther PPQ love the smooth trigger and short reset.

I probably will also get the G30s and get the trigger tuned.

1911's forever!

I love the 1911s. I used to shoot them in competition as part of a combat pistol team.

Unlike food, most of us can’t afford to have a different one every night. Sadly.

Regarding my long guns, the one I am shooting on any given day is my favorite. I just enjoy shooting all of them and like each for its own distinct characteristics. But the AK is still the go to SHTF weapon. There’s nothing like crude brute force.

Never was a problem for me or my colleagues when our standard issue sidearm was the S&W Model 19. All still alive. Those that opposed them still dead. One man became a living legend in fending off an attack by multiple aggressors armed with AK-47. He took a bullet through the neck, but survived, and left 3 dead. S&W Model 19. The right hand of freedom in the 1980s.

The model 19... Agreed. Awesome pistol. My dad and my sister each got one. I went with the 686 as my hands are a little bigger. But I like that 19 too.

Carried a wheel gun all my life up tell four years ago. Fell in love with a XDM-40 and have never looked back. With 15 in the mag and one in the tube, also double mag on the weak side. That gives me 46 rounds of joy with very little work. But if I were a rich man the Sig 226-40 would be my new carry everyday.

If he practices, I’ve met plenty of one gun guys who couldn’t hit the ground.

Very true. It was very true of me and that 686 for several years. It was my first large-caliber handgun, and my only one for several years. I shot once or twice a week for those years, down at the local gravel pit. Shooting that gun became as natural as pointing my finger.

Now of course I’ve spoilt it by adding a dozen more guns to the mix.

Those XDMs are nice and reliable. I wouldn't mind having a Sig P226, either.

I like my 3rd generation Glock 19 pretty well for a modern pistol. However, my favorite semi auto is, oddly enough, my humble Bulgarian Makarov. I just love that little gun. A joy to shoot and carry.

I have an old police trade-in Model 19-3 that looked like 20 miles of bad road when I bought it. I cleaned it all up (still looks like a beater), and it shoots like a dream. I almost had my hands on another 19 today, but someone got to it before I did.
