Was Justice Roberts’ ObamaCare ruling a curse for Republicans, or a blessing?

When Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the Supreme Court’s Marxist bloc in ruling the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate constitutional, stunned conservatives immediately accused him of committing an “act of judicial cowardice.” “It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices,” wrote the supremely hypocritical Roberts as he shattered one of the first rules of judicial restraint by rewriting sections of ObamaCare from the bench. Although he refused to “protect” the people from a wanton abuse of power, he was more than willing to protect DC lawmakers from the consequences of passing unconstitutional legislation.

But did Roberts manufacture his creative penalty-is-really-a-tax revision of ObamaCare for the purpose of bailing out the lawmakers who wrote the Act? Or was it actually his intention to help destroy them!

American Thinker contributor Bill Dunne believes that in his ObamaCare ruling, the chief justice set a “diabolical trap” designed to...

Roberts was told to rule in favor of Odinga, or they’d go after his kids.

That’s all there is, or was, to his decision. That’s the Chicago Way.

Not buying it.

It may be true that Obamacare is the final straw for the American people but it is too far of a stretch to claim Roberts planned this outcome. You could just as easily say the same about Pelosi.

This was my thinking, that Robert’s had set an elaborate long-term trap that would spring in the 2014 elections. Yes there was plenty of pain in between, but the actual Democrats who caused this needed to feel that pain.

My mother always said, “You be careful what you wish for as you might just get it.’ That’s what happened to the Democrats.

I don’t know if it was a curse to Republicans in the long run, but it was a curse for the American people.

He still should have voted constitutionally, that is their supreme task..period. To leave in place a job killing law in order to increase the pain so as to help us in the coming elections is not his job...period..and is evil because many people are being hurt badly.

Roberts either sold out or was deeply threatened, plain and simple. He was not some master chess player. IMHO.

Judge Roberts met with Obama ex parte while
he was a litigant before him.

Later, the black robe gleefully complied
in the destruction of the Constitution, Law, and
what once was, private medical care.

This may be an interesting posit 10 years from now, but Obamacare is still the law of the land and the democrats have not paid a price for it yet.

Just "maybe" the writer has a point.

Just "maybe," but if his theory is correct, it may just be another instance of the Hand of Divine Providence giving American citizens a chance to choose liberty instead of slavery to government.

Act of judicial cowardice indeed another reason for term limits in the SC.
Ego grows with power.

I have always felt that the Dems have something on Roberts. Was it the adoption of the Irish girls? Is he Gay and is he using the girls as his beard?

A diabolical trap?

Hardly.

No, someone, somehow, with something, got to Roberts.

Even a couple of his colleagues on the Court claimed he intended to vote against Obamacare — up until nearly the last moment.

His pretzeled excuse made little sense, legally or rationally. It will go down in history as one of the most convoluted rationales ever for affirming a law.

A rube goldberg ruling on a rube goldberg law. Only Justice Roberts really knows what he was thinking.
