“I only have 2 months extra blood pressure medicine, Plus the current vile.”

It is your insurance that limits you to buying three months at a time. If you don't use your insurance, you can get a prescription from the doctor for as many months as you want, and get it filled not using insurance. You would have to pay the non-insurance price. If you bought three months worth not using insurance, you would have a six month supply - the three months you have and the three extra months you bought without insurance.

I told my doctor I was a prepper, then had to tell him what that meant. He laughed and said he would give me a year's worth of prescriptions.

It's just me, the clickity-clack of the keyboard, and the occasional drive-by lap takeover by one of the catz making that buzzing noise.

Luv that buzzing noise. Although I love my yorkie to pieces, he IS missing that wonderful, relaxing purring sound that the cats offer. Although being independent types, they only offer it on THEIR terms. Gotta respect that...

I left Providence, RI a little over 6 years ago and relocated to Kentucky - haven’t regretted it for a moment!

I'm jealous! I'm a few years out from being able to move - and just hope things hold on that long, being held together with rubber bands and duct tape as it is.

What part of KY are you in? How did you find the transition? I took a relocation trip last summer and found the Kentucky people to be the most friendly, by far. Even though I had a Prius with CA plates - they still encouraged me to relocate there. (Although since I prefaced it with my wanting to escape the idiots in CA probably gave them a clue I was NOT a liberal!)

There's a pharmacy in Canada where you can get reputable medicines for a lot less than in the US cause you can get bulk.

It's Northwest Pharmacy.

http://www.northwestpharmacy.com/ContactUs.aspx

They ship to the US. I've gotten some medication that I cannot get here in the US, thank you FDA.

I don't know how long the feds will allow that, but for the time being, it's a source.

Don’t be “that guy”.

No matter what a badass you are, there’s always a “badderass” out there,

and you may be a badderass than any one of us,
but not all of us.

So true. Not just keeping the plants alive until harvest but ESPECIALLY getting the soil ready. In my experience it takes three seasons to get suburban yard soil ready to produce.

I'm opening new ground this year to extend my big garden. It will be several years before it's really productive like the rest of the garden is.

That takes a lot of work, and a lot of knowledge and skills that you don't really learn from a book.

"36. I’ll just stock up on weapons and take what I need from others."

People with that mindset are the ones waiting in line for two hours to pay chump prices at gun shows. The good news is those brand-new weapons and ammo (that they paid chump prices for) will be lying on the ground, ready to be picked up, after their brilliant "prep" plan fails miserably.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Yeh, I knew about the insurance company. They won’t allow a refill till you get down to the last 3 pills. Went around with pharmacy more than once when leaving for a vacation and needing a refill before the last 3 days.

Last time, I pointed out that I didn’t even have Ins. anymore for drugs, and they agreed to fill it after I had 5 days left. I have always just refilled at my local pharmacy rather than by mail, because I use only generic anyway, and I like to support all the local businesses I can.

Next time I go in, I plan to ask for the script to be written for a 3 month supply. Last time I asked for 60 days extra just to have on hand, and the doctor had no problem with it.

I do keep some herbal teas etc. that help lower blood pressure too, but for long term, I don’t know. When I fill the order now, I put back 2 pills each time. Soon that will give me a month too.

I live in Central Kentucky, about an hour south of Louisville. The folks here are generally friendly to outsiders and most are willing to help their neighbors in times of need.

Back in 2009 we were hit by a horrific ice storm (3+ inches), and this caused chaos like you wouldn't believe. Tens of thousands of power poles and towers collapsed under the weight and had to be replaced; almost a million miles of power and telephone lines had to be restored; and in tools thousands of trees blocked everything from dirt roads to interstates. Yet in the midst of this, you had neighbors checking on each other (sometimes even opening their homes for the elderly) and forming chainsaw gangs that went around and cleared the roads so that people could at least get out and buy their basic needs.

One recommendation if you do move here; make sure your new home has a basement to storm shelter. Tornadoes are fairly common here in the spring and summer. On the plus side, you can use this area to store emergency supplies.

Bwaa-Haa-Haa! Great minds...

I’m so glad we’re friends; you’ll be one LESS for me to worry about WTSHTF!

Central Kentucky, in Madison County. The transition was a little rough at first, but I adjusted and now can’t see myself living anywhere else. The pace was hard to get used to - being a “gogogogogogo!” type, it was a tough adjustment to the slower pace of the country lifestyle.

And having a thick New England accent didn’t help...lol. But, I married a local woman and now have an accent that can flip-flop.

Relaxed gun laws, low property tax rates, and lots of land spurred the move.

Greetings and salutations from the other side of I-75, FRiend.

I remember that ice storm very well, thankfully we were only without power for 4 days. Had plenty of preps, a wood-burning fireplace, and a gas water heater. Not that I’d like to do it again necessarily, but it’s always good to have situations that test your prep level.

Now we’re in a house that has all-electric and no fireplace, so had to make some adjustments.
