I was doing a radio interview this morning and the host asked me why the Department of Homeland Security needed 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. The easy answer for me was, They dont. Of course the follow-up question for him was, Then why are they buying it?
And thats the billion-dollar question isnt it. What is the federal government going to do with all that ammo? Why do they need it? Why are they buying it? Its unprecedented. Are we on the cusp of physical domination by the United States Federal Government? And, if so, how will the American people react?
The talk show host also asked me, If the people were to rebel, how could they ever possibly hope to prevail against a government so big, so huge, so powerful and so ruthless?
He had a good point.
I mean, lets face it: they have Predator drones, spy satellites, and sophisticated online surveillance and communication systems. How could the American people ever hope to prevail in a fighting war?
Sure, we barely prevailed over the British in our original war for independence, but that was different. Great Britain was based thousands of miles away, and it took 30 days to cross the Atlantic. That was a huge benefit to the colonists. We no longer have that. The federal government is right here, right now, and firmly cemented into state and local law enforcement. The talk show host argued there was no hope of prevailing over a government so massive and powerful.
Was he right?
I brought up the Taliban and the Viet Cong as recent examples of how to defeat a large military in a techno-driven war. In the end, the Taliban will win, just as the Viet Cong did. In truth, only three percent of the colonists actively fought against the British in our war for independence. But three percent was enough.
But the big question is this: Are there still three percent of the American population with the courage and resolve to fight against an out-of-control, tyrannical government? My short answer is: I think so.
Of course, we all have our lines in the sand.
1. I will fight when they force gun registration. 2. I will fight when they come for my guns. 3. I will fight when they come for me.
No matter where you fall on that list, it puts you in the precarious position of defying the all-powerful Obama of Oz. Who is the man behind the curtain, pulling the strings, calling the shots, planning out the final moves to dismantle our liberty?
Is it Barack Obama or some other unseen dark and evil minion?
I dont know.
I hope they would not but was discouraged when I asked my son (a disabled combat infantryman from the Iraq war)if he thought the American troops would fire on civilians and he instantly answered “Oh, of course!” His contention is that the higher-up brass will convince them to fight by claiming that other army units are in peril and that they have to be “rescued”. The soldiers’ loyalty to each other will trump their reluctance to fire on civilians.
A whole bunch of metrosexuals and gangbangers could vanish in the woodlands and swamps without leaving a trace.
When the Vietnam Legacy studies were done based on in depth interviews with veterans, combat veterans, and more specifically ground combat troops, it was learned that in a given firefight with the enemy, fewer than half of armed infantry troops actually fired on the enemy.
The rest faked it or just lay low till the fray was over. I believe that the average American troop is even less likely to fire on someone who is a neighbor, knows his neighbor, or knows him.
That is why I would expect to face not GI's but UN "peacekeepers." Hopefully they will be wearing their bright blue UN helmets, as that will provide a good target to sight in upon.
Appears to this observer that I recollect that the last time a tyrant tried to away our guns, a foreign nation came to our aid and bottled up the tyrant`s army and navy at Yorktown.
Lafayette! Where are you?
A young friend of my nephew just enlisted in the Marine Corp.
He was asked to sign a contract specifically detailing the following: if Martial Law was declared by the President, would he follow orders to shoot Americans.
This is part of the problem and why a revolt may never get started. It is the "I" and the "me" or "my" part that would allow a slow, piecemeal dismantling of liberty.
Can a revolt succeed? Conventional tactics and guerrilla warfare does not go far enough. If it should come to an open revolt, that would mean it has been conceded that preserving the US as a military and economic power is not important. Once that concession is made, the potential to win by economic destruction becomes possible. Our economy is a fragile system of inter-dependencies. It just takes a little imagination to figure out how to exploit that vulnerability. If people know what to do and how to do it, the economy would be a basket case in just a few weeks.
“Our enemy has a supply line that at his fingertips, along with all the armored motorized transport he needs”
If a despotic version of the US military ever tried to attack here at home, you would see how little armor they have. Iraq has stretched them to the limit,, and is smaller than Texas.
And as for a supply line so close to home? You must remember, that includes their families, homes, bases that were designed to function as bases “at home”. They are not defensable “green zones”.
And how about the contractors who build missiles, electronics, food, fuel, magazines, ammo, drones, etc,, and a million other things they need?
Those are mostly in industrial parks, municipal airports, and in stand alone businesses.
No, fighting on top of your own logistical tail is an utter nightmare. Our military is not structured for it. Thinking they could pull it off their foreign success at home is the height of hubris.
>>You’re forgetting one thing: that supply-line is right inside the disputed territory — and the ‘enemies’, being Americans, will blend in with the general American population...
You’re forgetting another thing: half of those “americans” are quisling traitors who will turn the freedom fighters in in a second. They can do it anonymously by phone or by internet. They don’t need to be seen getting chatty with the police or ObamaCorps officers. Comparing an insurgency in modern America to one in the 18th century or in a third world shithole is apples and oranges.
The VC are not a good example as they had plenty of “outside” support and the South had its hand tied behind its back by the US and its own corrupt government. The Taliban certainly was armed initially by us and later, the Russian weapons they seized.
The USA is now in more of a civil war position. The problem here is that the South was very well trained and armed.
Buy guns for personal protection by all means but an all out war assumes a 45 - 55 split that is not in our favor. I don’t think the government has the strength yet to grab guns and open concentration camps. At least yet.
I am not sure at what point I would fight.
I do know someone who would have if he were still alive. My Father was a bit crazy. There is no doubt in my mind he would have fought before giving up his guns. I don’t know how he lived to 90 but he did.
Supply lines are fragile things, but an absolute must have. That being said, there would need to be signficant resources allocated to the utilization and protection of those supply lines. One little step, and it can come crashing down.
Individuals added for protection in armored vehicles can't be expected to stay in there infinitely. They will have to refuel (the persons and the equipment) and appropriate rest breaks and/or changes in personnel allowed. Now spread those lines out over thousands of miles, and hundreds of stops to collect supplies and ultimately deliver supplies, and you have a whole lot of opportunities in the making.
Similarly, it is also why it could be preferential to seriously wound the enemy instead of outright killing them. It requires resources to remove them, provide them treatment; which means less in the field. Likewise, if they just left the wounded to die, it would eventually have a demoralizing effect on those wondering if they will be left to die as well.
Well, they did at Kent State.
I am one citizen that will shoot back!
What Internet? What phone system? What electricity? What water? What sewers? Not exactly the stone age, but dang close.
0bama at Ohio State.......
Yet another instance of describing “all those who oppose (obama’s) own views on what America is and isnt, and told those there that in essence, being an American citizen is opposing those who oppose him.”
I think they would as well - history in 1932 showed they will burn out even fellow veterans. See The Bonus Army: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army
The Army response was led by none other than Macarthur and Patton.
I will fight when they come for my toilet, my 100W incandescent light bulbs, my right to exhale CO2...
How would any of that stuff be effective against 10 million men with scoped deer rifles who took their shots and kept their mouths shut?
The politicians that send out the SWAT teams will be the villains.
Doesn’t matter who is behind the curtain!
Tear down the whole thing, or, rent it in two!
Every American with eyes in their head, a brain that works in their skull, and a heart that says that what they are doing is wrong, is what is needed, before, a firearm is picked up.
The American armed forces have a great track record at war, but not so good as an ‘occupying force’. You tell Private Jones that he cannot se his dying granny, because she is considered an anti-government anything, and you will see signs of cracking.
The British thought of us as ugly, dirty, less-than-common English Colonists, and their soldiers were mainly conscripts, and prison-occupying men working out their sentences.
Sure, the government armed forces have that neat geeky stuff, but it will be their neighbors, sons, daughters, parents, aunts, uncles, neices and nephews, that they will be opposing. I would not put it out of the question, that there shall be late-night visitations between family members, and they won’t be sitting in the parlor drinking tea! Sure, there are new manuals and written instructions for “the occupation force”. The Germans had them, too, and it didn’t help them from coming up missing, either!
I am saying this, with all the intent and purpose behind it:
“Any American military member, that strictly follows their commanding officer’s orders, to fire upon, directly by small arms or indirectly through large arms, or to unleash any weapon that is controlled by military personnel, upon any American civilian, (which they might just term combatant), is NOT worthy to be an American, but has earned the label “TRAITOR”, AND IS WORTHY OF ALL THE DISDAIN, HATRED, VILLIFICATION, AND RECEIPT OF ACTIONS, DIRECT AND INDIRECT, BY THE AMERICAN POPULACE.”
