Social Security Disability Cuts
myself | April 3, 2013 | myself

To all freepers on social security disability, when checking my direct deposit into bank account. I was reduced by $136.65. Has this happened to anyone else.

I just paid for some prescriptions I needed yesterday. With my own money.

If you are on Medicare, why pay out of pocket? Medicare requires you to also carry a Prescription plan. If you are not carrying it, you are hit with a monthly penalty that increases yearly. If you later sign up for a prescription play, you continue to pay the the penalty in effect at the time you signed up for the Prescription plan.

If they wouldn’t cut checks for the millions who aren’t disabled, then it wouldn’t be going broke. I’d wager I’m more “disabled” than half on the dole.

More like I'm losing around, what, 8% of my paycheck for 40 years to pay for SS and Medicare and I'm not on it. And I'm going to turn down something I've been paying for for 40 years (and counting) when the time comes?

Do I have a Stupid sign pinned on my ass?

I’m sorry. I stumbled into a thread for “gimme gimme” supposed “conservatives”. I never should have posted here.

As someone who pays for you, and who also must pay for myself, it’s not conducive to my own health to read these postings of ridiculously entitled people wanting more and more and more from the government and playing the “you want me dead” card every time they must pay for something out of their entitlement check.

That is how I feel about it, too.

I paid in for 40 years. I consider it no different than an insurance policy. It used to be called Social Security Insurance.

Additionally, considering all the fraud and pilfering and careless spending of the politicians, my monthly SS check isn’t even a drop in the bucket. Illegals and foreign aid account for money down the drain; how much did they pay into the system?

As someone who pays for you

No. I paid for ME for 40 years.

It isn't my fault that politicians have been pilfering the Social Security fund for decades.

If the amount I paid in were in a private account at 6%, I would have accumulated around $1 million or so.

That argument that YOU are paying for US just doesn't hold water.

Oh, it holds water. So much so that we are drowning in debt because of entitlement minded people like you.

Yep. I’m sorry to have intruded on such a pity-party of entitlement.

No, you did not pay for you. You did as I did and paid for our PARENTS! Current workers are paying for you, which is why I refuse to take a cent from this immoral ponzi scheme. I'm eligible for disability but I refuse to file and I pay for my own health insurance. I'm a lot of things but one thing I'm not, is a thief. I will not participate in even state sponsored theft from your kids. You don't seem to mind, but I have to look at myself in the mirror every day and so far I like what I see. I don't want that to change.

Your bitterness is a hell of a self-sentence.

Wrong, Wingy. You and I paid for our own, but it has been looted by free-spending pols. The actuarial tables and taxing methods would have been solvent thru the 2030’s, otherwise.

You may say I'm wrong and you might even believe it in your heart, but I say check your assumptions. I was part of a team that ran the numbers in the '70 for all of SS as an econ 201 project. Yes there WAS a surplus on paper and even that was due to be depleted half way through the Boomer generation's retirement. Even before Medicare Part D, the system was doomed. On top of that, even the surplus was spent each and every year by our wonderful congress critters and signed off by every president including Reagan. I say again, current workers pay for current recipients, and have, in real terms, since 1964.

That's the fact, Jack.

Two of my prescriptions were moved to another tier. I need Advair and Spiriva for my lungs and they are brutally expensive.

As to my monthly check it stayed the same, so far.

You may be, but that doesn't mean that everyone on social security is stealing your money.

I paid into the system from the time I was 15 until I landed in the ICU at 60, fresh from finishing one of my usual 70 hour weeks.

I miss my job, I miss my customers and the people I worked with, if I could work I'd be out the door in a heartbeat.

“Your bitterness is a hell of a self-sentence.”

Your whining cannot be mistaken for self-reliance.

Are you willing to thank the taxpayer in gratitude for the checks you get from the government?

Notice I didn’t say anything about those who are truly eligible, but those who get it merely because they signed up on a Tuesday after 3 pm or whatever reason tick me off royally. I know two who most definitely shouldn’t be on it. They’re out doing scouts or shopping or clearing land or partying or vacationing or a dozen other things between cashing in on my tax dollars.

You and I finally agree on something, sort of. This abuse of the system must stop.

There are truly needy that cannot work. But when I saw this thread on FR, I thought I had wandered into the website. Actually, I take that back. The amount of pushback from Freepers regarding Entitlements is massive.

No wonder Romney lost.

Just please be nicer to other Freepers if you can manage it. I know you are ticked off about your tax bill - but you are not the only person in America paying exorbitant taxes. Trust me.

Take care.

Absolutely. I continue to pay taxes myself. Perhaps your notion of self-reliance should be looked at. I think that it is entirely reasonable to expect a return on forced contributions to a plan, even if it is a ponzi scheme because of mis-management. It is also rational to expect it to fail at some point. So I plan for that.

I do sleep well at night.
