Fat Good, Carbs Bad
maggiesfarm ^ | Gary Taubes

"I've been preaching this since long before Gary Taubes' books came out. That's because I have a colleague who studies the physiology of insulin. From what I know, Taubes is right. A quote re Dietary Incorrectness at Powerline:...Taubes disputes the connection between dietary fat and high cholesterol. He challenges the thesis that dietary fat is detrimental to our health. He rejects a balanced diet. He advocates a high-fat diet. He opposes dieting. He doesn’t object to exercise, but he asserts that it makes you hungry. It’s almost funny. He is the dietary equivalent of politically incorrect.

I’m Russian. It’s in the genes. My whole family lived into their 90’s.

Must have been the yogurt.

You'll get over that worry in about 3 months ~ avoiding wheat, barley (malt), and rye in this society is a 24/7 concern.

You got that malt part, right? I the label doesn't say 'distilled vinegar' you got a problem.

No, but I'm finding out every day what I can and cannot consume.

That goes for alcohols as well.

I will cut back because refining the wheat bran does additional nutritional damage but at least the vast majority of refined grains, especially rice, are enriched with B vitamins and iron are added back after processing.

Rice and pasta are terrible.

I remember that ad from around 1978:

“Eighty-nine year old Bagrat Topagua liked Dannon yogurt so much, he ate two cups. This pleased his mother very much (she pats him on the head).”

Anyway, Atkins works, low-to-no-carbs works, not PC, but how it works.

Quinoa and brown rice pastas are fine ~ but very expensive ~ which cuts back on the intake like you wouldn’t believe.

Are they below 20g serving? If not they are just bad.

It depends I guess. In terms of your blood sugar, a small plate of white pasta is better than a large plate of whole wheat pasta. And replacing a refined grain with a moderate whole grain alternative offers a slight nutritional upgrade but nowhere near as big an upgrade as replacing it with an extra serving of vegetables, which are the most nutrient-dense foods out there. So I eat a green salad everyday for lunch, snack on bananas, apples and pineapples and finish the day off with veggies and chicken over rice. :)

Whole wheat bread is nearly as bad as white bread. Might as well eat a candy bar.

I concur. Cutting out wheat cleared up my allergies and my arthritis some.

Cutting out wheat greatly diminished my hay fever, but it didn’t work with poison ivy, and I’m not sure it would work with medication allergies.
