Evolution Isn't Science
hutchinson News ^ | 11/27/2012 | KENNETH B. LUCAS

The new standard for teaching science in public schools should prohibit teaching religious beliefs like evolution as if they were the equivalent of scientific theories.

Science should be defined as using experimentation and observation to discover information about physical reality. Explanations of what happened in the ancient past cannot be verified using experimentation and observation.

----------advertisement-----------

Contrary to a popular myth pushed by those who want to make science a substitute for religion, science has yet to produce a new explanation for the development of life or the origin of the universe.

The idea that the universe came out of a black hole (the "Big Bang" theory) became popular in the 20th century, but it is hardly a new explanation. An account attributed to the biblical patriarch Enoch (Noah's great-grandfather) first described an event in which "all of creation" came out of an invisible object with a fiery light inside (i.e., a black hole) thousands of years ago. Many cultures use the word "egg" to describe the object the universe came out of.

The idea of one species changing to another, particularly the idea of humans being related to apes, was around long before Charles Darwin wrote his "Origin of the Species." Darwin was reluctant to say we are a monkey's grandchildren, so he just suggested that we are distant cousins. The ancient Tibetan religion had no such inhibitions and claims that we are descended from monkeys.

Evolutionists ignore the fact that humans use gradual changes to develop complex equipment. Development of biological life through gradual changes implies that an Intelligence developed life.

“I classify big picture evolution as ‘just a theory’ because the rigor of the scientific method has not been employed”

That’s true, but certainly you must be aware that scientists and all but confused laymen agree. Who is it you’ve observed treating Big Pi tire Evolution as scientific? Certainly not creationism’s bete noire, Richard Dawkins. Nobody of note I can think of.

“In the study of genetically, where adaptation can be observed, I readily acknowledge that the scientific method is employed”

Though Darwin wasn’t aware of genes and it took Watson and Crick and the rediscovery of Mendel for neoDarwinists to get the true picture, what you’re talking about is small “e” evolution or natural selection, which is what evolutionary biologists work on all day. Big Picture Evolution is merely an unscientific extrapolation from it. You must remember that natural selection is what’s quintessentially Darwinian. They basically had the Big Picture before him. They just didn’t know the mechanism.

You seem to be very emotionally invested in certain theories.

Does that enhance your salvation? Does it have anything to do with your salvation? If you don't believe in the details of what you say, are you not saved?

Enquiring minds want to know.

The calculations by Ussher are a misnomer. He arrived at those figures adding up all of the begots and begettings for Jesus lineage. Sir Isaac Newton did the same but was off by 8 years less that Ussher iirc.

The point is modern day science owes its success and existence primarily to judeo and christian men of science - our fore fathers. Just b/c some modern day scientists [and journalists] choose a secular godless perspective does not in any way invalidate the genius of these findings nor the added conclusive proof that there is logic and order found throughout the universe which mitigates heavily for an all intelligent and powerful being.

I see what has been accomplished and I see so much missed potential for all mankind when they begin to believe and fall for satan’s lies rather than God’s Promises.

There are plenty who read these forums who are not saved, I only wish to further the great commission by providing interpretations of past events that can help anyone clearly see everything the authorities tell you ain’t necessarily so - so read and investigate please.

The largest computer programs are in the 100 million lines of code (LOC) range. I worked for a company that had a reverse engineering engine and telecom billing systems were that large. Another system I worked on had 10 million LOC and it originated $100 billion in loans a year. No one person can come close to understanding something that large let alone design it free of fatal errors (what we call a Level 2 program).

I study, to show myself approved.

Contention does not further the great commission.

It does, however, further science.

I'll take what me and Jesus discussed that night on the side of a mountain, bleeding out, during a blizzard. I don't try to second guess God.

He can do things however He wants. I can only guess at what and how.

When I set myself up as a sole authority of God's will and way, or accept someone else's word for it, I set myself up for failure.

That does not imply mutual exclusivity.

And I recognize the thinking of a colleague in the person in question. If you want to study the sciences, by all means don’t be afraid to either do some coursework, either at an institution or online.

"Who is it you’ve observed treating Big Pi tire Evolution as scientific?"

There is an annual battle royal for science textbooks to classify big-p evolution (fish became frogs) as a scientific fact or theory. I'm most familiar with the school board battles in Texas - a huge market for textbooks.

That does not imply mutual exclusivity.

Based on the context of what the person (who claims to be a scientist) said, you're wrong.

The ancient Tibetan religion had no such inhibitions and claims that we are descended from monkeys.

If mankind evolved from monkeys why are there monkeys still around? Are the present monkeys still evolving and will they someday turn into humanlike beings? If not why not?

There are a lot of technical issues relating to radioactive dating, such as "inherited age". The most basic evidence of the billion year time scale of the earth is the relative abundances of Uranium isotopes and their decay products. There is even the celebrated Oklo reactor where natural concentrations of Uranium actually induced fission reactions which lasted several hundred thousand years. The event is dated to 1.7 billion years ago based on the existing ratios of decay products.

I don't no how one rejects evidence such as this, except through simple denial and special pleading.

Precisely. But much deeper b/c as science continues to unlock the secrets of DNA they are finding more complexity and more riddles that evolution simply will never account for.

The fact that language and behavior are learned should tell you all you need to know about any initial animal population - the primary skills found ingrained in their very being had to be conceptualized and coded for ahead of their initial use. Not just the 5 senses for humans but sonar for dolphins, navigational star readings for birds and insects - the list is as long as the kinds and don’t forget that 99.9% to have ever lived are extinct. Or that approx 400 different types of parasitic populations live in a healthy and properly functioning stomach. Or how about explaining an evolutionary perspective on the bombardier beetle or the common caterpillar/butterfly.

No room for accidental re-programming on a missing link type scale. Language for mankind is so distinct and complex when compared to any other life form, the same for conscious awareness, abstract thinking, problem solving, etc. If man is raised in isolation, aka tarzan, than no language is expressed - it must be passed down generation to generation. Older languages are more complex than modern and yet also had to originate from somewhere?, right?

Now what was the primary task God proscribed for Adam regarding creation? God had to teach the first man, Adam language before He could ever go about making up sounds and words to define the animal kingdom.

If I discard Genesis as some storytelling than please provide me with any source that has a better explanation for these mysteries please. It is foundational to everything about out faith. If the fall from the Garden of Eden didn’t happen then why would anyone need a Saviour?

“7-8 billion years of apparent elapsed time” is kind of giving away the store, don’t you think? “And the evening and the morning were the first day.” How can that be anything but poesy? What are your theories on absolute true and mathematical evening and morning?

You forgot the supercillious sniff.

So... science can't be studied except online or at approved courses?

Did that just spring out of nothingness? Or was there an original tenured professor?

Science is, and always has been, and always will be humans blundering about, chasing down blind paths, until they figure out which one leads forward.

Cooks know these metaphysical things.

You should get out more. Look around. We need Salvation. God provides more than one source of proof.

OH Please - I never set myself up as some sole authority. I’m just trying to show you there is much more science to be found outside of the mainstream secular authorities.

Science and scientists that agree and confirm the unique claims of the Holy Bible. You know the one that Jesus read and studied? OR ‘Have you not read?’

For certain values of 'forward'.

Ipad? It made me a believer in devolution. But that's a different religious war. ;)

I bothered to learn to read it in Hebrew. I didn't quite get to Greek... but that's ok.

Anyone that hammers any particular view of 'biblical truth' does try to speak for God.

How hard is it to say "God is in control. We're pretty clueless, but this is what we think might have happened, but we could be wrong?"

This thread is ... beyond words. I can see some here having no respect for themselves, but this: “Science is hard!” Barbie-stuff shows no respect for the rest of us as well.
