Gay Advocate @ HuffPost Gay Voices asks if Kiss-in was a big fail, and what to do

I am aware that we can't post pieces from HuffPost but I did find it telling , and worthy of mention, that a major gay advocate (Michelangelo Signorile) from their Gay Voices is asking if the CFA gay protest failed, why, and what can be done now.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michelangelo-signorile/chick-fil-a-were-the-prot_b_1746382.html?utm_hp_ref=gay-voices

What is interesting to me is that he attributes their failure to lack of organization, which is not quite true. The events were organized well in advance and invites posted on Facebook and Twitter - the same tactic used by Huckabee for his Aug 1 CFA Appreciation Day, which we all know was hugely, massively succesful.

Says Singorile:

"How did we allow it to happen? Because there was no coordinated effort on our side. The controversy was largely driven by blogs, social media and very loosely organized grass-roots activists, with no coordinated leadership. The city mayors and politicians calling for banning Chick-fil-A gave an opportunity for the right to reframe the story. The mayors backed off quickly after many on the left decided it wasn't a good idea. That's what we progressives do: We debate and often rethink things, unlike what those on the right did during the controversy over the Islamic center, as James Peron noted. But though the politicians backed off, the damage was done. And there was no leadership on our side aggressively pulling the story back from the right's re-framing."

Denial and rationalization will only go so far to wave away this massive fail.

As one poster commented on the piece:

"Accepting and liking are two different things..."

"I can accept a lot of things I don't like... The problem with this whole issue is that you want people to LIKE gay marriage... You can't make people LIKE it... The fact of the matter is until you make a law that says people have to LIKE gay marriage than there is nothing that this CEO did that is in any way illegal or a "hate crime." You might as well forget a "like" law happening for any issue...."

Their “real” problem is that they don’t understand the issue. They think that it is a gay rights issue. When reality hits, they will realize it’s a free speech issue and how petty and immature they were not to realize it sooner (or not).

did anyone ‘protest’ ?

I (thankfully) did not see any news organizations running 24/7 cameras of gays playing tonsil hockey in a CFA

Did anyone do that?

What some of them don’t understand or won’t admit is that the goal is criminalization of Christianity, not “rights” n

Tolerance is just asking people to “put up” with something...

Acceptance is for someone to unconditionally accept something with no reservations...

When you force people to ACCEPT something, there will certainly be a backlash....

I think the reason there was no filming is because basically none of their side wanted to engage in a kiss-in and no one showed up. Even they must have sensed how impotent and silly it was.

What wound up happening is that a few gay couples would stand outside near the CFA sign (near the road and well away from the restaurant), pose for a kiss, and upload the pic to Facebook. Not a protest or advance toward the opposition in any way, shape or form.

I think it has now dawned on them that this was a protection of first amendment rights issue. But precisely therein lies the problem for them: They wanted their same sex marriage issue to be viewed as more important. And it really wasn’t, not even to their own allies.

"How did we allow it to happen?"

Because women's gymnastics was on. Because there was a sale at the mall. Because you all do these things half-ass. *rimshot*

Tactically, they did not do something I was afraid they would do. What they should have done, which would have made things a lot uglier, was to call in their Democrat allies, such as the unions, as well as the fairly organized bunch that orchestrated the Occupy foolishness.

This was as much a Democrat party failure as it was a gay failure. That is, the Democrats are now putting the gay agenda into their party platform, so they really should have turned out in support of this harassment. That they failed to do so shows that homos are less important to them than other groups.

Previously, they have been quick to use SEIU thugs in support of other actions, so it was something of a surprise when they didn’t use them and others to support the homos.

Re the criminalization (or at least the marginalization of Christianity) I think they were in error on 2 points:

1. They over-estimated their own allies’ support
2. The underestimated the solidarity and robustness of Christians and their supporters.

Indeed, when both sides are fighting, they lose.
They’re tactics so far have been to make sure we don’t see the threat and don’t fight back.

Good point - and I think the gay advocates were terribly confused on this point. They did not understand that many of their own liberal allies are not all that accepting, just believing in tolerance.

They revealed themselves to be greedy and selfish. Even leaving out the CFA Appreciation Day, I think many of their own supporters were annoyed with them (a glance at some of the Facebook remarks from the later proves this).

Yes, good point.

However - and this really stunned me when I read the facebook posts - many of the Occupy crowd made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with the issue. How telling is that?

Hay Mikey! The protest was a big fail so it must have been lack of organization, huh? Why not ditch the communist ideology that a centralized body is required for success.

Putz can’t see that he argues against himself.

And this is a sign that if we want to win, all we need do is fight. We have been complacent and they have been counting on this complacency to continue their push.

Bingo: That someone as intelligent as Signorile cannot seem to grasp this bespeaks major denial, on his own part, and the part of the movement.

If he has to ask he is a dumbass and would not understand the answer.
It failed because 1% of the population will never overcome 85 percent of the population.
Nothing can be done. STFU and go away..........

The last poster you quoted understands quite well.
