As fiscal conservatives we have morally and correctly attacked Obama on the record deficits that have now surpassed George W Bushs record deficits of the time. Will a Present Mitt Romney balance the budget? And if he doesnt, should we remain quite?
No, Mittens won’t balance the budget. His big idea is to pay for tax cuts by “closing loopholes” in things like deductions for state property taxes. His “reforms” are just surface level that don’t tackle the real money black holes, such as social security, medicare, medicaid, etc. He is also vowing to increase defense spending, which I am not opposed to, but there is no math in any of his plans which even match what he is promising to do. He gives little specifics, and his promises ring hollow.
A Ron Paul could do it. A Herman Cain could do it. A Newt Gingrich could do it. Mitt Romney? Definitely not.
It is constitutionally impossible for the President alone to balance the federal budget. Since FDR our Presidents have been assigned more and more authoritarian qualities to the point that I fear most people think the President can legally snap his fingers, sign an executive order and do anything he wishes.
That is the overwhelming case among blacks regarding Hussein.
Quite what?
Which of our past US Presidents balanced the budget?
Yes.
President Romney and Republican Congress must balance the federal budget.
Bush didn’t balance the budget but that was OK because he was a conservative. /sarc
A balanced budget in year one?
How about we allow him to start by spending less money on special interest wish-lists. Our goal should be to cut spending in REAL terms in the face of loud opposition from the Dems and the media.
I am so tired of so-called “cuts” to hypothetical budgets that, in reality, still INCREASE government spending.
No, he won’t. Hopefully he will reduce the deficit some.
Our budget deficit is so large, if it can be balanced at all, it will take several presidential terms to do it.
The federal budget was balanced every year from 1920 to 1930 thanks to the fiscal conservatism of Harding/Coolidge and Republican Congress. The national debt was reduced from $26 Billion on 1 July 1920 to $16.2 Billion on 1 July 1930
But the “offical” liberal historians have portrayed Harding and Coolidge as evil Republiccan capitalists.
Presidents don’t balance budgets. Congress does. He can only sign a balanced budget they present to him.
should we remain quite

WHAT?
Well, since he raised fees on everything and taxes while Governor of MA to the tuneof $700 million, don’t count on it.
He certainly will not decrease the size of government, he will certainly, given his established record, increase the size of government.
He’ll cut the only program the beneficiaries paid for - social security. This will make the libertarian hearts leap.
And the real problem is boldly stated. Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. Until everybody agrees to give back their own handouts nothing will be done. Yes SS is a handout a few years after retirement. Most people get back what they paid in very quickly, the next 15 years of retirement is handouts. Nothing turns a tea partier into a statist more than advocating cutting their Social Security and Medicaire. Since these two make up a huge percentage of Federal outlays, everything else is sophistry. We have met the enemy and the enemy is us.
Give me back the money you collected for my retirement and health care and we’ll call it a deal. I’m not retired yet but don’t intend to take it in the shorts from some idiot libertarian with no sense of right and wrong.
Cut all the crap that does not belong in government and all the benefits paid to people of the US and world who did not pay for them, then talk to me about the wisdom of stealing my retirement money.
Fine, you will receive everything you paid in by your 70th birthday, then after that it is those still working’s money you are receiving, not yours. The dirty little secret is that Rick Perry was right.
Bull.
And thus we shall go bankrupt. Greece here we come, and it will be the people’s own fault, no one else.
