Keep your own counsel
If you look through most any of the Preparedness threads here on FR you will find examples of the three types of people I call the anti-preppers. The first is the “I’ve got lots of guns and plenty of ammo and I’ll just take what I need.” and the seconded is “I don’t prep because I don’t believe anything is going to happen, but if it does preppers should share with me.”
Anyone reading these peoples post can easily pick-up the anger in many of them and you will soon see that it’s not just the Libs that are shocked and infuriated by preppers.
The first group the “I’ll take what I want crowd” when confronted will often back off saying things like “I was just joking”, but I don’t believe it. When I read their post I can’t help but think of this quote from one of my favorite westerns ’Open Range’: “Most times a man will tell you his bad intentions if you listen, let yourself hear.” I’ve ‘hear’ their intentions and they aren’t good.
The third type that I would like to warn about are those who wish to bring God’s Armageddon into the discussion as if they know that it will be God’s will should some catastrophe befall us. They claim this despite the fact that the history of man is full of direr times which were caused by nature or man himself.
History has shown us all too well that men do not need God’s help to muck things up to a point were their fellows cry out for God to end it all and relieve them of their misery.
There will be many in this ‘its God’s will’ crowd who will want to see you punished as they will see your prepping as you trying to dodging God’s punishment. This group along with the “I don’t prep, but you should share” group will be among the first to report you and your ‘hoarding’ to the powers that be in their efforts to make sure you too suffer just as they do. The ‘its God’s will’ will do it because they will see you as trying to escape the rightful wrath of God (as if they know the Lord’s mind) and the second because you proved them wrong.
You can be fairly certain that all three groups will hate you as they will be quick to blame you for the ‘troubles’ because in their twisted way of thinking your prepping brought the ‘troubles’ and therefore you need to be punished for your transgression.
Always keep this three groups in mind when it comes to OPSEC. Operational Security is not just for your Lib neighbors many people that you may think of as being conservative thinkers will be just as dangerous.
I myself have gotten an e-mail from a fellow FReeper telling my that my advise on prepping is going to kill anyone that listen to it and should SHTF and we meet he promises me a bullet. Their are others on here that were not so direct, but I expect the same from them.

Very, very true words. I’ve heard similar words over the years. Also a very good indicator of their true character is who they have as their friends and closest associates. They may be able to hide their true selves from most people but their reflection in their associates is always a giveaway.

Train?? Every neighborhood has at least one, and usually more, busybodies that know exactly who to call (police, zoning commission, Homeowners’ Association) to report any infraction by their neighbors - and gawd help you if she(usually, but not always, she) takes a dislike to you...
And this is at no expense at all to the Gummint - these people get their ‘pay’ in the form of smug self-satisfaction...

As a civilian CERT facilitator is the most populated county in America and having a full knowledge of the program I can say this is BS.
CERT in Harris county is to be seen and not heard. We will never be ‘called out’ nor will we be used as spys. We work fun runs handing out water, work crowd control, and cops and firefighters do not know CERT exsist.
CERT training teaches a person to be responsible for you and your families well being in case of disaster because you can not rely on first responders when TSHTF.
This poor prepper has been sniffing his sterno supply and is seeing Big Sis around every corner. And amyone who talks about their preps with their idiot neighbors deserves to see the jack boots in the middle of the night. Just saying.

Sorry about the double. You are right on about the three types. One more thing I’ve met few Libs in CERT in Texas, most are conservatives serving the public. Few are wana bees, few are wack jobs. And if Big Sis thinks she can co-op us she can eff off, this is Texas baby.
That falls under “No good deed goes unpunished.” Threatening to kill you for trying to help people is just beyond the pale.

One such other group are those who are themselves prepping (or having their government employer prepare for them), but think they should get to choose who else should be allowed to stock up on supplies. These people are pure F'N evil.
Needless to say, any SHTF situation in this society is going to be so factionalized that the Balkins will look like a family reunion by comparison.
The solution is real simple -- Constitutional law and equality under the law. Only one of the many "factions" respect that concept, and those are Constitutional conservatives.
If I see very many more Zombie stories I may go out and get a gun. Somebody out there is going to take advantage of those drugs.
Also remember that a part of the healthcare bill was setting up a reporting system for IRS..................
A lot of “so-called” conservatives are actually statists or no-good busybodies who think they know how to run your life. Add in the totalitarian “police can do no wrong” types and you will realize that about half of the “so-called” conservatives are not going to be your friends when SHTF, since they really aren’t that much of a friend now.
The communists truly fear dedicated intelligent preppers, first off its against the “share all” ideology. But foremost will be the lack of subservience due to lack of food, control the food, control the people.
So preppers are the anti-socialists, by being prepared and equipped to endure the upcoming manufactured food crisis they will be the wild cards, the unknowns, the resistance to the Federal Food Handouts for solidarity to the Socialists States of America.
The Socialist in control of America don’t really fear those armed to the teeth, they fear those that are and will oppose the carefully planned execution of strategically timed food shortages or emergencies.
Now to really get the campfire to burn big fast and hot would be for someone like Sarah Palin to endorse prepping for emergencies. But those in the know already realize that people like Sarah Palin can go out in the bush, in a boat or such and can live off the land with vigor, so easily indeed.

GPS trackers in every car, truck and telephone
Software recording every purchase and financial transaction.
The Feds monitoring our telephone calls and other communications
It won't be long before we have USSR style Block Captains and Apartment Monitors.
