Prayers needed for HHC's dad (Vanity)
Self | 21 March 2012 | Self

Hello,

My wife's (FReeper hellinahandcart) dad has been undergoing chemo and radiation therapy for a fast growing cancer. He's nearing the end of his treatments, but there appears to be something else very wrong.

She says that he is basically out of his mind. This apparently is not related to his cancer, according to the doctors. They are trying to get him to take a CAT scan but he is having none of it. He is also suffering from hallucinations now.

On top of that, he may be coming down with pneumonia and his white blood cell count is down on account of the cancer treatments.

I ask your prayers for either his healing or a quick end.

Please pray for HHC and her family (mom, two brothers). She is going through a tough time.

His name is Jim.

Thanks, 'Pod.

So glad to hear that your dad is at least a little better. My friend (I told you about her upthread) who did this after back surgery is mentally back from where ever she was. She is still weak from spending a month or more in bed but her mind is totally back now. I feel that your father will come back as well.

I certainly hope so, and I'm glad your friend is better.

The doctors wanted to do a CT scan of his head last week, and Dad refused, let's say "adamantly." Maybe when he comes to his senses a bit more, we can get that done.

My friend had a CT scan because they feared she had a stroke but they found no sign of that. I don’t think they ever came up with a reason for her temporary insanity.

So if any of you have a favorite verse, or something appropriate to my father's situation, or just something beautiful and reassuring, list it here and I'll give it a try.

Tyndale's translation of John 1, is, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful English ever written.

Psalm 34
Luke 15....I was thinking of the Lord’s compassion for the one lost sheep in terms of each of his sheep being precious, but as I looked at the whole chapter each parable may be of help to your dad, you know, bring back memories of things he hasn’t thought about in a long time.
Thank you for this morning’s post.

Would he enjoy hearing hymns read? I suggested “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” on another thread.

Thank you for the update, which resulted in additional prayers for you and your dad.

I think reading Scripture will help your dad to be calm. The Word of God has the effect of creating still waters.
I think your dad will remember passages of Scripture from his childhood.

It does not matter how much time passes, or what a person has done, there is redemption through Jesus Christ and the offer is always open while one has breath.

Psalm 84 is a good one to read aloud:

1 How lovely are Your dwelling places,
O LORD of hosts!

2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.

3 The bird also has found a house,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,
Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
My King and my God.

4 How blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are ever praising You.

Selah.

5 How blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
In whose heart are the highways to Zion!

6 Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring;
The early rain also covers it with blessings.

7 They go from strength to strength,
Every one of them appears before God in Zion.

8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O God of Jacob!

Selah.

9 Behold our shield, O God,
And look upon the face of Your anointed.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD gives grace and glory;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

12 O LORD of hosts,
How blessed is the man who trusts in You!

My best guess is there is mild inflamation in the brain. Try some motrin if it is not banned by other protocol.

Also, there may be some blood flow restriction. Try L-arginine (otc vitamin supplement). It will temporarily relax the blood vessels.

The Little Church

(by Jane Mullenax)

I passed a little church today

Its doors were open wide

Bidding me welcome, saying

Come, come inside.

Slowly I retraced my steps,

Climbed the threshold floor,

All the while I asked myself,

What am I here for?

Suddenly a ray of sun flashed

Across the gloom.

It was there and then I knew

God was in that room.

In that quiet, awesome silence

Of that room that lay so bare

I heard a voice say softly,

"Child, I am with you everywhere."
