And this is a surprise why??
I have circa 1850 articles on the oceans and methane...it's part of how the universe works. Has "0" to do with man.

In the bible in Revelation chapter 16,verses 8-9 it states: Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. So it is clear that someday there appears to be something that may deplete the earth of its protective ozone layer, thus causing the sun to scorch the skin of human beings. Maybe this is the reason Obama has banned all offshore drilling. He's afraid that a spark might set off all that methane and ignite the oceans.

What is abundantly clear is that there's always something that someone can turn into a harbinger of doom, biblical or otherwise, for purposes of their own polemics.

According to Igor Semiletov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, methane gas is 20 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. Semiletov has studied these methane plumes for years but most of that time they were only about 30 meters in diameter. Semiletov said, "We carried out checks at about 115 stationary points and discovered methane fields of a fantastic scale I think on a scale not seen before."
Earth to Igor. Earth to Igor. Methane will oxidize to CO2 which will feed plants and increase the yields of crops around the world. We could propose that at what, for all indications, is the end of this current interglacial period, we are witnessing something that may herald the end of the current ice age before a period of truly clement weather around the world. Of course, this could be something that triggers the next glaciation and we're in for another 100,000 years or so of ice, snow, and horrible storms.

Oh hell, if methane is more harmful than Co2, the enviro Nazis will ignite the plumes claiming to protect the earth, while increasing global warming.

methane gas is 20 times more harmful than carbon dioxide.
do not accept that statement too quickly.
1) the percentage of methane in the atmosphere is very small.
2) the correlation is based on a model of just 4 factors, not tested in the real complex world.
3) you have to assume carbon dioxide is harmful.
