During the 2010 and 2011 summers, I was a cashier at Wal-Mart #1788 in Scarborough, Maine. I spent hours upon hours toiling away at a register, scanning, bagging, and dealing with questionable clientele. These were all expected parts of the job, and I was okay with it. What I didnt expect to be part of my job at Wal-Mart was to witness massive amounts of welfare fraud and abuse.

So whats your solution ?
You need food ? Come down to the armory once a month and we give you food. Beans, rice, cheese, powdered milk, canned meat.
No cash for gas. No cash for cigarettes. No cash for beer.
We’ll give you laundry soap and toilet paper.
If you’re really looking for work, we’ll give you pager.
Oh and by the way, the day you come down for your food, you’ll spend a couple hours cleaning around the armory.
Easiest way would be to end the dole.
It is not just a regional or specific state problem. Once you realize the ubiquity of the leeches in this country, you will realize that is why Obama MUST take wealth from producers to redistribute to these people. They are his lifeline to his Despotic Reign.
I cannot recall the last time in at least two years of going to Walmart (paying cash), only to get behind some fat leech using her EBT card...it is a national disgrace.
I have lefty relatives who live in Sanford, ME. Not 10 minutes from this Walmart. I can guarantee that the Maine mentality is to take it til it hurts. HUGE welfare state in ME. Schools are among the lowest in the country. High taxes. No Jobs. A-holes from NY and Boston own estates on the water. Inland is bad.
I paid over $50K last year in Federal Income Tax... I DO NOT DO “CHARITY” ANY MORE.
They do that now? Use guns and force?
The sum total of your posts on this thread leads to the conclusion that there is nothing that can be done about this so we should not even bring it up.
In other words, you have exercised your First Amendment Right and in doing so wasted everybody’s time.
Voluntary charities do not, government does.
Try not paying your taxes...
You honestly believe that’s a viable solution?
Ah, but does that include military members? Government contractors and suppliers? Where do you draw the line?
Personally, I'd say anyone drawing welfare, Medicare/Medicaid, SSI, food stamps, and the like are ineligible to vote while accepting such payments would be more than sufficient without crossing over into the grey area of disqualifying government employees.
Sounds like you need some “depreciation deductions”...
What about those with legitimate needs?
“Sounds like the experience my Son had at the Walmart here the other day - couple in front of him, bought a computer, a 32 HDTV, and a bunch of other things - then paid for a bunch of food with an EBT card. Outside they were parked right down from him, and he watched them load everything into a Lexus.”
Ummm...someone needs to have police check their backyard for the buried bodies of welfare recipients with the EBT cards missing from their pockets!
I'd think that with computerized EBT cards, it would be easier to weed out fraudulent purchases, for instance anything with "FritoLay" or "Pepsi" in the line item automatically gets disallowed.
I'd also think that it would make everything easier to audit. I used to turn in PCard stuff to my employer when I was travelling 90% of the time. I can assure you that my statements were gone over with a fine toothed comb. Anything that was even a little questionable needed to be accounted for.
Of course, my employer actually had a vested interest in where their money was disbursed, unlike the bureaucrats running the gov't programs. 'Tisn't their money being spent. (/sarc)
Why not post the whole thing from your blog?
Nope, just seeing what people have for solutions.
I was once in my local 7-11 and in front of me was an illegal alien with her two anchor babies. The little boy had more gold around his neck than my wife owns and the little girl had her ears pierced with large gold earrings.
They approached the counter with Slurpees and candy and was stared down by the store owner, a legal immigrant from India who puts in 12 hour days at that store. She didn't notice, but he was incensed - you could feel him trembling with rage.
She pulled out her Access (EBT) card and he exploded: "YOU CAN NOT PAY FOR CANDY WITH THAT CARD!!! THAT CARD IS FOR FOOD ONLY AND IF YOU CANNOT PAY FOR WHAT YOU'VE OPENED I WILL HAVE YOU ARRESTED!!!"
It was a thing of beauty, watching this illegal welfare queen shaking, scratching together enough to pay for her crap. She went from Royalty back to vermin in a matter of two seconds.
As she left and I approached the counter, I extended a handshake to the owner and told him he made me proud to call him a fellow American.
Or my preferred solution: kibble.
And no, I'm not kidding. Make a nutritionally-balanced... something that is freely available to everybody. No means-testing, no arguments. If you want it, pick up a sack and take it home, or wherever else you want to use it.
You want real food? Pay for it.
You get a kick out of being intentionally obtuse, don’t you?
Those with legitimate needs go to the private charities whose purpose is to help those with legitimate needs.
A private charity has the incentive to make sure that their help is not being abused. A gov’t welfare office worker actually has the opposite incentive, where they get bonuses and raises that depend on the number of people on the dole.
We managed to survive 150+ years without a government run public dole. Including the post Civil War depression. That’s what friends, neighbors and charities are for.
