Rick Perry’s Second Time At Bat
Red State ^ | December 4, 2011 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 12/04/2011 7:10:13 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Last night on Fox News’ candidate forum, Governor MItt Romney defaulted to quoting David Brooks from the New York Times. There’s why Herman Cain’s supporters will be looking at Gingrich and Perry.

In fact, last night a number of Cain’s Iowa staff moved to Rick Perry.

Rick Perry will get another look. He will get another look because while the grassroots and Republican voters in general are moving to Gingrich, conservative leaders around the country are rapidly running up their watch towers to light fires against Gingrich. They remember him from the 90′s and they don’t trust him.

Rick Perry is going to get a second look. Jon Huntsman made the fatal mistake of branding himself too moderate. He’ll get a look if people don’t like what they see in Rick Perry.

This now raises a huge red flag: is Rick Perry ready for his second chance?

I’m not sure Perry is ready. His debate performances have steadily improved. But there is a real problem for Perry. He needs to run a really flawless race and his campaign needs to send out some strong signals that they get it and will perform.

Rightly or, I hope, wrongly, I get the impression they still think it is their race. I think they still think they are biding their time. I think they still think they are fighting Kay Bailey Hutchison. I think if they don’t wake up soon and shake up, they are toast.

Rick Perry is going to get a second look. He is the most consistent conservative in the race. In fact, this should be his race to lose given his positioning.

How did conservatives “HANDLE” the attacks?

I personally think the question should be.

“How did Herb handle the attacks?”

Hell Ma Cain didn’t even know about the financial payements that Herb admitted to paying Ginger White over the years. When you start hiding personal matters from your wife then what else will you hide?

He obviously cheated on his wife.

You can tell by how she left him then filed for divorce.

So much smoke, got to be a fire right?

Right?

Enjoy Obama.

Remember, Cain had nothing but allegations made against him, and he's history...finished...gone.

Horsesh*t. Two women made harassment charges against him at the NRA and received severance/settlement packages. That certainly doesn't make him guilty, but it amounts to more than just "allegations."

Cain lost support because of his many clarifications of previous misstatements and his lack of depth on policy. The allegations aren't the primary factor in his downfall. His woeful responses to the allegations are what finally did him in.

And when the media begin their full-out assault on Perry, he’ll be done in as well. The Leftists have beaten our collective A$$es here, and we’re too dumb to see it.

I’m not too dumb to see anything. Speak for yourself. The leftists didn’t beat anyone’s @ss. Cain did himself in with his lack of policy depth and poor crisis management. Perry damaged himself with poor debate preparation and performances. The only person absolutely savaged by the left is Sarah Palin. Everyone else is in control of his own destiny in this campaign.

You can deny it all you want, but Left has indeed beaten us. Think about it; a Left-Wing rag like Politico runs a hit piece on Cain, and other “conservatives” join in the chorus in this assault on Cain. Do you ever see the Democrats do this to one another? NO!

When fellow conservatives decided throw their hats in the ring with the likes of Politico, all bets were off. What ever came of these allegations? Nothing! No, Cain’s real sin was not responding correctly to these allegations.

Well guess what, the same fate is awaiting Perry. As we get closer to the actual primary, and if Perry is surging or leading in the polls; the attacks on him will be brutal. And remeber, the stories (read: hit pieces) that the media will do on him might not be altogether accurate, might be misleading, might be outright lies; but this won’t matter. The only thing that will matter is how Perry responds and manages them. This guy had a hard time staying awake in the debates. How do you think he’ll fair when the media is having a feeding frenzy with him?

I hope Perry supporters like you remember the way Cain was treated when this happens to your guy. Trust me, you haven’t seen anything yet. The media and Left have been emoboldended.

The answer to that is YES. In 2008, I participated in Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos by voting for Hillary against Obama because McCain had already clinched the nomination by March. I witnessed despicable acts by Obama's ACORN/SEIU thug delegates against Hillary's. I filed an affidavit detailing what I saw and heard.

It does seem when compared to Newt Perry is a better conservative and man.

Although unlike newt he can’t debate, and his graft on illegal immigration and school for illegal aliens now seems to be something we have no choice about.

Wether we really does support illegal aliens now as he did 10 years ago, or has changed both Newt and Romney do now. So sadly we are not likely to do better there.

Basically, not sure why you're so obsessed with the impending Perry attack from the Left. Its already happened. And to contrast him with Herman Cain, well Perry has held office for 10+ years in Texas and had his share of enemies doing dirty research against him. Cain had never held office and thus there wasn't much of a reason for anyone to go after him. Perry is pretty well vetted.

I believe Cain is telling the truth, still. I think he was forced out for bogus reasons. I feel very sorry for him and his family.

While Perry is not my first choice in the GOP field, I would indeed vote for him, and donate to his campaign. While some of our canidates may not be the best, they would be a 1000% improvement over the Kenyan. I just hope we can come together after the primary. I’m committed to voting for who ever the nominee might be. If we lose this election...we’re done as a nation.
