I have a popup blocker installed but it is increasingly overwhelmed. Can anyone suggest a good free blocker to download?
Thanks.

I use the latest version of Firefox. I’m not bothered with them. But I’m selective on what websites I go to.
Most people that have trouble with pop-ups seem to also be using Internet Explorer as their browser. If that’s what you’re using, you might want to try the Firefox browser.
I dumped I.E. and started using Firefox around 2004, and rarely see a pop-up anymore. If I do, I just left click with the mouse and turn it off.

Make sure you don’t have an underlying malware issue. A lot of “pop ups” are really fake antivirus seeking to make your computer a “bot” or to get you to buy fake-o antivirus/antimalware “programs.”
I’ve tried noscript a couple of times but I can’t figure out how people manage to use it. I have to unblock elements on every page I visit just use the page.
Just thought I’d through this in. I recently switched to a Windows 7 pc. I sell online and so print shipping labels. The old pc was Winxp pro and I used the Seamonkey browser (believe it or not) and printed labels just fine.
The new pc however, will print domestic labels just fine but would not print the international ones. I ‘ve been using Seamonkey browser. I tried Firefox, IE, and nothing worked. Pop up blocker turned off and they wouldn’t print.
Sooo, I was using the old pc to create the international labels, then convert them to a pdf, put them in dropbox and print the pdf from the new pc.
The other day I thought maybe Google Chrome might print the labels to save me the hassle I was going through. It prints them. I didn’t adjust any settings. I don’t like other features of Chrome enough to make it my default browser but just thought I’d share this in case it is helpful to anyone. Though I’d like to figure out what settings in seamonkey are preventing them from printing I’m happy that I don’t have to juggle between 2 pcs to get the job done.
Firefox with the Adblock Plus plugin/add-on works pretty good.
Firefox/Adblock Plus
I use Windows 7 and IE 9. I add the address of the occasional pop up to my list of restricted sites which virtually eliminates all of them.
Please. No geek-speak, techno-jargon or computerese. Please speak English so those of us born without a computer chip in our brains can understand.
A computer chip is still a thing, right?
Mac OS X is the best popup blocker.
It really is the last word that needs to be said in mainstream personal and professional computing.
If you know Linux or Solaris, knock yourself out, but I don’t recommend either for daily chores at home or even the casual office desk.
The Macintosh OS X is the only reliable solution to rid us of all these PC help vanities. Signed, sealed, and delivered by a professional in this field.
I agree. Use Firefox (I have for years) with the add-on Adblock Plus. I see NO ads..No popups, etc.
I've heard in recent years that Microsoft has greatly improved I.E. Your comment tends to support that, although you apparently still have to do extra work to block pop-ups.
I also use Windows 7, but I'm still browsing with Firefox. I suppose it's become like a comfortable old chair to me now. It ain't broke, so I'm not interested in fixing it.
I downloaded and am now using Firefox. BIG improvement. Thanks for the suggestion.
I use Win7 and IE8; I refuse to “upgrade” to IE9. I have no problems with pop-ups, but get “pop-unders” at Townhall that automatically crash my browser. So I never go to Townhall.
