Monsanto-spawned superweeds growing three inches daily, destroying farm equipment

The proliferation of superweeds --weeds that have mutated to develop resistance to popular herbicides like Monsanto's Roundup formula --continues to rise. But the individual plants' overall size and strength is also increasing. According to a series of new studies published in the journal Weed Science, farmers are having more trouble than ever dealing with out-of-control superweeds in their fields, some of which grow up to three inches a day in size, and are so strong and thick that they are destroying farm equipment.

The studies reveal that there are currently at least 21 different weed species known to be resistant to Roundup, also known generically as glyphosate. These species include ragweed, pigweed, horseweed, waterhemp, and ryegrass. Since 2007, the total acreage of farmland known to be infested with superweeds has also jumped more than 450 percent, from 2.4 million acres to 11 million acres, which means that the problem is only going to get exponentially worse.

"Super-strains of plants like pigweed --which grows three inches a day and is tough enough to damage farm machinery --have emerged, which may dramatically reduce the options for farmers to control them,"

"Super-strains of plants like pigweed --which grows three inches a day."

Does it have any use? Gasohol, fabrics, paper, or plastics?

"My neighbor got some topsoil from the municipality, which reclaimed it from compost. A couple of months later he was pulling radishes and potatos out of his lawn."

If the city composted it, it would contain every disease and bug ridden plant, tree, or weed in the city. I hate to bring in compost for soil.

That's pretty cool. I used to have a lot of wild onion in my lawn in Georgia. The stuff was everywhere.

“All I know is to NEVER buy organic top soil, esp. if it’s from out of state. I made that mistake this spring and am now battling some crazy strain of invasive stalk-like grass. Never had it before and it’s only in areas where I put the organic top soil.”

Down here, I got some with Saw grass in it,Tough dude there, easer to just re-sod.

first thing I do is look at the source of “news”. Anyone that thinks this is not agenda driven is a moron.

True, true.

In this case, however, the agenda isn’t necessarily what we’d think it is.

Adams’ companies make money on direct email (ie, “business spam”) software systems to send email ads to target customer bases. He claims that they’re based in Cody, WY... and the next time I’ve over there, I’ll see whether the address given is just his registered agent for his LLC or there is an actual company there.

The point being, this guy has some background in the Y2K “market” and I’m not entirely certain that he’s putting out these bumpf on “natural” foods and living for purely altruistic reasons. ie, he could well be generating leads for marketing campaigns from this sort of stuff...

Yeah, as a weapon. Drop seeds from drone aircraft over the poppy fields of Afghanistan or the rice fields of North Korea.

...The study was issued by the National Research Council, which is affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences and provides advice to the nation under a Congressional charter.

Overuse of this seductively simple approach to weed control is starting to backfire. Use of Roundup, or its generic equivalent, glyphosate, has skyrocketed to the point that weeds are rapidly becoming resistant to the chemical.

That is rendering the technology less useful, requiring farmers to start using additional herbicides, some of them more toxic than glyphosate.

Ever tried eating wild onion? I sauteed some that I pulled up with stir-fry. Really good with a flavor which bites! FWIW, I also take a teaspoon of Tabasco sauce straight twice a day during cold and flu season. I miss about one day of work every 3-5 years due to colds.

It wasn't long ago that Fukushima was a conspiracy created by left wing Greenpeace fanatics. Link below from FR nuke experts...great fun.

Do you dismiss the instructions on a bottle of antibiotics to complete the entire course as prescribed? (Even if Rush Limbaugh told you it was ok...lol)

If so - why?

Do you know why taking an incomplete course of ABX is not a good idea?

Can you draw any parallels to how the use of a broad spectrum pesticide can be completely ruled out as a potential equivalent of an incomplete course of ABX?
