President Obama dismissed the idea that a poll showing 69% of voters opposed to raising the debt ceiling ought to have any impact on policy.
What does the average person know about government finance? the President wondered. Id say practically nothing. An individuals experience with debt is vastly different from what the government faces. An individual must pay his debts out of his own income. The government has other options.
For one, the government can tax other peoples income to pay its debts, Obama continued. The government can also print money to pay for stuff. Individuals cant do that.
Finally, we can always refuse to pay, Obama contended. The United States Government is the most powerful entity on Earth. Who is going to force us to pay if we decide we dont want to pay? No court would dare authorize a creditor to seize government property for any unpaid federal debt.
So, with all due respect, voters need to tend to their own affairs and leave the job of governing to those they elected to rule them, the President advised.
In related news, President Obama asserted that 80% of the population wants taxes to be raised. To support this assertion the President cited a recent Gallup Poll in which 80% of the respondents indicated that they would prefer someone elses taxes to be increased if the alternative was total economic collapse.

He just KNOWS that 80% of the population wants tax increases.

There, I fixed his quote.
The only thing Obozo knows is how to spend money on vacations golf, and Michele’s ice cream.
Perhaps he was counting only those that don’t pay federal taxes?
I do wonder how the 50% that don’t pay federal taxes would poll. I suppose that they would be a yes on higher taxes since they don’t pay - perhaps a small percentage in the no category - those that know that higher taxes on those that pay taxes cannot be good for them in the long run, especially if they work or are looking for work.
I can see it now:
"Obama thinks he is smarter than you: commence Obama quote. Palin thinks the American people are smart enough to know Washington shouldn't spend more than it takes in: commence Palin quote."
Damn!! Az conservative almost got me again! LOL!!! It’s getting harder and harder to pick the real quotes from the satire with this regime.
I have no doubt Obama thinks it.
When you incorporate state sales tax, payroll tax, and various other taxes, it would be my bet that there are way less than 50% that actually don’t pay any net taxes. I’d say the real numbers to look out for are the food stamp numbers and those on other major forms of government assistance. Those add up to way less than 50% of the American people, and are even less of the voting public. Also, some on food stamps and unemployment might leave the Democrats who put them their over the Obama Administration. Many of those on those types of assistance still have some pride, but it is still helpful to look at those numbers since for every food stamp recipient who votes GOP in the hopes of getting a job, there is a diehard liberal ideologue or a moron who thinks by voting Democrat he is helping the poor, but I repeat myself.

That’s not dismissal, that’s denial. Like being a liar lying and believing your own lie. There is absolutely nothing true or honest about Obama. I do question his identity, faith and his humanity.

Then recall that he said we're too stupid to figure out this economic stuff.
Yea the government has the power to confiscate anything it wants to and call it a tax.
Wow, spoken like a true dictator. And people agree with this kind of arrogance? Imagine Bush saying such things, this is unheard of.

This is like the show Cheers with the chick getting hammered by the Italian waiter saying: “oh, it’s just their culture, it’s normal, they forget it all like that”
Culture this, people.
It’s the whole point, people are responsible employers of the government and the government is a spoiled brat agent fed on easy donuts who now is truly making blood bread with us.
Hey, whoever the juvenile delinquent is who is vandalizing the keywords in John’s post: Grow up. If you want to criticize him, write a comment like an adult.

Apparently it's not just the "average person" who knows "practically nothing" about government finance. Raising taxes in a recession or printing more fiat currency to get out of debit are notably bad ideas.
Since Obama discounts the intelligence of the average person how can he find credence in a "a recent Gallup Poll"? Especially when "they would prefer someone elses taxes be increased" (big surprise there!). It makes me wonder of the 80% in favor of raising someone else's taxes includes the 50% who currently pay little or no taxes...

You didn’t catch me this time, John. I caught on in the second sentence....BUT I’m sure he’s preparing to make just these same comments! I’ll look forward to it - N O T!!
