Ping!
You have a point. Convince enough people.
Complacency and blindness to the reality you are describing are our enemies.
Even here you’ll hear the mindless repetition of “the greatest country on earth”.
Well, no more. For all we know some place like Estonia may be freer than this land nowadays.
Little by little we have been losing freedom during my short lifetime.
What to do?
I am praying things turn around in 2012.
I celebrate it to honor the past and those Americans before me who sacrificed so much to bring this nation to greatness.
I do agree that it should not be a celebration of present-day realities, though. Hopefully in time we’ll re-discover those values that made this nation great (I won’t be holding my breath that that will actually happen, though...)
Poster can go to hell, because, we will never succumb to this. There are millions and millions out here who are ready for the fight. Get a clue article poster, this will never happen.
Happy 4th of July everyone, especially our Military, this guy is an anomaly.
My reason to celebrate is to acknowledge the country that dozens of my ancestors fought to keep this country free. If we were in Russia we could celebrate the choice dictator of the state. If we were in a muslim country we could not celebrate but we would have to praise ala or maybe riot. I celebrate my heritage not wallow in the slime of my self pity.
I’m with you 100%.
I just made that up. Interestingly enough, I was talking about this with a very decorated nam vet(2 silver stars, purple heart at Khe Sanh) yesterday...most kids and young adults can't recite even the first line of the Declaration of Independence much less the whole thing because there is nothing pushing them to learn anything that is not in the current school curriculum or on a video game.
Theres always freedom...
One of the songs we are singing tomorrow at church
The National Anthem, America the Beautiful, This Land is your land, Youre a Grand Old Flag
and then this...we re going to sing the version David Phelps sings
Let FReedom Ring by Bill Gaither
Deep within, the heart has always known that there was freedom
Somehow breathed into the very soul of life
The prisoner, the powerless, the slave have always known it
Theres something that keeps reaching for the sky
Even life begins because a baby fights for freedom
And songs we love to sing have freedoms theme
Some have walked through fire and flood to find a place of freedom
And some faced Hell itself for freedoms dream
Let freedom ring wherever minds know what it means to be in chains
Let freedom ring wherever hearts know pain
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
We can be free and we can sing -— let freedom ring
God built freedom into every fiber of creation
And He meant for us to all be free and whole
When my Lord bought freedom with the Blood of His redemption
His Cross stamped pardon on my very soul
Ill sing it out with every breath, Ill let the whole world hear it
This hallelujah anthem of the free
That iron bars and heavy chains can never hold us captive
The Son has made us free and free indeed
Let freedom ring down through the ages from a hill called Calvary
Let freedom ring wherever hearts know pain
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
You can be free and you can sing let freedom ring
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
You can be free and you can sing let freedom ring
You can be free and you can sing -— let freedom ring -— let freedom
what a pile of bovine excrement. I will celebrate because we still have the opportunity to turn this thing around. I refuse to sulk away into the night just because the boy-king, abetted by demonrats and the media, currently have an upper hand. You can take your crappy attitude and go elsewhere with it.
I will disagree and plan to celebrate the 4th.
Because there is no freer nation that I know of. Nowhere else I’d prefer to live.
Are my freedoms ideal? No. There is a long way to go.
But I think this is as good as it gets, for now. So I will celebrate that.
Tokyo Rose? somebody send this guy a clue, we don’t quit
My state is celebrating the Fourth by conducting roadblock searches without probable cause - supposedly for drunk drivers but in reality they are looking for anything to raise some revenue.
It’s pretty much no longer celebrated anyway. Most Americans have no idea what the observance embodies. They lack historical depth.
No. I celebrate Independence Day for the same reason I go to church: to be reminded of what I am supposed to be.
Response: This statement is not true. We have many reasons to celebrate: Tolerance, Egalitarianism, debate, discussion inclusion, room at the table, a big tent and "The Divine One" as President with Reverend Wright as his spiritual mentor.
God help us all.
While many await the 2012 elections to get rid of obama, i see the problem differently. Obama is the symptom of the problem.
We get the government we deserve.
What you espouse is a tactic, not a defeat. I actually think it’s brilliant. However, imho, you should’ve said to quit celebrating it until we can celebrate it with it’s due honor.
If elections don’t seem to be doing the job then between elections we need to let those know, who make laws, that there are other ways of making our feelings known. Not celebrating the Fourth would make quite a imprint.
For those critiziing Nobama’s post. What are you fighting for if not the right to make the post? The 2nd isn’t always pretty, but it’s needed to advance everyone. There is no “settled” speech. Your treating him as though he’s on the left, when clearly he isn’t. I’m no fan of libertarians, they’re one abortion from not being among us, but I defend their right to speak.
I say we get louder with the “4th of July” celebration, to rub their noses in it—as symbolism of this country’s “can do” spirit. Of our love and devotion to the Constitution and a free Republic. We need to immediately remove these traitors from our government, trashing our political traditions, dramatically reduce the size of government and adhere to the Constitution as it was intended.
Half the country is too worry about “Dances with the Stars”. Let the rest of the half take charge and return us to the Republic of our forefathers.
