(Vanity): US is Suffering Severe Case of Palin-itis (Going Rogue Rejoinder)

I hope I write another piece on Sarah Palin again.

The woman is an antidote, and I choose my words carefully there. She is everything that is right with America, and indeed, that is the only reason I’m writing this at all. This essay is altogether far more a commentary on The Undefeated's America than it is on the woman herself. Our national problem is Palin Derangement Syndrome far more than it is Palin.

There have always been people like Sarah Palin, and presumably there always will be. The two real questions are why Marxists are so worried about them and, most astonishingly, why anyone would seriously contemplate NOT putting them in charge of a country of 300 million people.

Palin the person is back in the news again right now (and notice that those assaulting her makes sure never to really leave here alone) for two reasons. First, because she’s launched this inspiring bus tour which reminds one of those nested Russian dolls where you open each one up and there’s another inside. This tour is a ‘family vacation’, inside of which is Palin’s public service mission of educating the rest of us about American history, inside of which is a coy flirtation with presidential politics, inside of which is a relentless, endless series of failed MSM ambushes masquerading as journalism, inside of which is an utterly unabashed thrifty family woman, inside of which is a fearless woman with a servant's heart whose confidence and faith could make George W. Bush look like Barack Obama without his teleprompter, crossed with the manliness of Jimmy Dhimmi Carter in comparison. At the end of the day, she has become essentially the Ronald Reagan of politics. She is famous for being a survivor, and she’s masterful at that one thing in the mind of the masses, but has been truly successful at almost everything else she has set her hand to.

“I’m publicizing Americana and our foundation and how important it is that we learn about our past and our challenges and victories throughout American history, so that we can successfully proceed forward”, Palin informed the ridiculously obsessed press following her everywhere on their national wild goose chase. “It’s not a campaign tour.” Right. That’s why it’s in a big, painted bus, and she has the media scurrying after her. Every family vacation’s that way, isn’t it? Especially when you've been getting death threats and been publicly accused of encouraging the shooting of members of Congress and of stealing your daughter's child by a deranged set of Marxist Alinskyites who will NEVER leave you alone. And, by the way, even if by some bizarre random quirk of stochastic physics (as though I, a poli-sci professor, even had a clue about stochastic physics, or even the meaning of the words) the press was actually being honest about their motivations in harassing her, isn’t more ill-informed self-loathing disgust of our national guilt just what America needs right now, as the country is imploding in every way imaginable, due to the affirmative action President who never before managed as much as a lemonade stand in the real world? (Pass me the bong.) And who is more perfectly poised to provide that lesson than the esteemed Governor Palin, so eager and multifarious is her skills that she can simultaneously use mangled syntax, by which to display her emotional love of the country, in the form of history lessons picked up on her tour of American historical landmarks, which most members of the press have never heard of? How many of us can claim such abilities? (And she packs heat and used to field dress moose as well; and she is a smoking hottie, too. Damn it, with her there, I'll never get a chance to score with Todd!)

The half-term governor knew that if she loaded up a busload of family members and painted the bus with patriotic pictures and slogans at her own expense, and that if she ran around at the same time (and even the same place) that other Republicans were announcing their campaigns, she could generate a boatload of media attention to come in her direction. This is a good time for it, too. Since she will soon actually be running for president herself (not just yet, she'll let her political foes sweat it out till she announces!), she no doubt realizes that her popularity, once she announces, will skyrocket in a hurry. Once the Rockefeller Republicans pick a nominee "whose turn it is" to run for President (likely Romney, and likely quickly), she will strike like a Mama Grizzly. Pulchritudinous Palin’s remaining cards to play at that moment will essentially include criticizing the GOP RINOs and pointing out the OBVIOUS failures of Pharaoh Obama The Unready. The former will not be welcome by Washington insiders during a presidential campaign for obvious reasons, and the latter will actually not either, because Palin will steal the thunder of any insider Republican candidate’s fake message to independents with her biting comments about Obama (remember how she singlehandedly dominated the debate on healthcare with the single phrase "Death Panels" ?) She is the best thing that could happen to the Tea Party, even if she hasn’t yet declared.

I think she well understands that her relevancy meter is merely idling, and she is about to become some legendary, awe-inspiring Ronald-Reagan-type figure, a creature that RINOs and other parasites wish in retrospect they had never heard of. Indeed, I think Palin is probably secretly still in drop-jaw astonishment herself that God has chosen to take her so far. So she is milking every remaining drop of peace that she can grab before she’s sent to the harder battles.

When asked if she was leaning toward or against running, she replied as only she can, “Still right there in the middle”. Oh, God. I need to hurl. I don’t know who is worse, Palin playing the media so effortlessly or the press for sucking it up like they have a prayer of stopping her. Nor could she help smiling as she turned the knife she had effortlessly been able to slip into Mitt Romney – despite there being nothing there of substance to stab – by stomping all over his presidential candidacy announcement extravaganza, and avenging his trolls and moles sent to infiltrate her last campaign. She then added a bit of her own special brand of backhand to the mix: “I apologize if I stepped on any, any of that PR that Mitt Romney needed or wanted that day. I do sincerely apologize. I didn’t mean to step on anybody’s toes.” No, she didn't: she meant to leave him with a warning shot through his perfectly CGI-generated hair, and she succeeded beyond anyone else's expectations. Half of her game is in getting her enemies to believe their own frenzied denunciations of her.

All of this would be choice enough, except that it’s both entertaining and cosmically righteous to see RINOs and progressives clobbering each other. Couldn’t happen to a nicer lot. And the other good news is that it seems many Americans are finally figuring out most of what needs to be understood about this miracle in a skirt: Our Lady of The Tundra, She-of-the-Immaculate-Convention. She really is that dedicated and innocent. The combined might of the New York Times and Washington Post, together with the latest brainchild of Cass Sunstein, crowdsourcing, did little more to Sarah than confirm in public all that her fans have been saying from the beginning, before slinking off the change the subject with yet another Democrat sex scandal.

Which also explains another way in which Palin made the headlines last week, this time by making clear, yet again, how utterly and astonishingly intelligent and well-rounded she is. She proved it again by acing American History 101, laughably spiking a question most members of the press thought they could handle, relying as they did on secondhand knowledge of poetry rather than primary sources. Knowing who Paul Revere was is like knowing who Santa is. Not for Savvy Sarah, though, who responded thusly: “He who warned the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms by ringing those bells, and makin’ sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed.”

Okay, leave aside the rambling nature of her remarks. Sometimes spontaneous, on-the-spot answers to press questions can legitimately have that quality (which – hello, FReepers! – might explain why Barack Obama (and lots of other politicians) use a teleprompter when they speak. (Usually those who have had substance abuse problems in the past, such as George W. Bush, or Barack "maybe a little blow" Obama come across as incoherent, whereas Sarah comes across as so genuinely excited that her sentences splash into an iridescent fountain of thought, seemingly unconnected until the observer stands back, to be amazed at the verbal equivalent of a Seurat masterpiece.) She obviously wasn’t expecting the question, though she can just as obviously be seen in the above passage to be scrambling to convey all the information she had learned while just INSIDE the Revere House, and doing her ‘thinking’ out loud. And leave aside, as well, the mysterious “He who…” construction I’ve heard her use before. There’s definitely some reference to the Bible or one of the founding fathers or some other loathsome conservative source from the past loaded up in that phrasing, but I’m not conservative enough or open-minded enough to have any hope of recognizing it. All that aside, what remains is the breathtaking sense of esoteric historical knowledge on the part of this frequent patroness on matters of American patriotism and "dead white males" (as liberals scornfully reject them).

So clever was Palin’s history lesson that even NPR, which happens to be a relentless critic of Palin and conservatism, not to mention her employer-until-she-declares, Fox News, was forced to come to grips with it. “Anchor” Chris Wallace asked her, “You realize that you messed up about Paul Revere, don’t you?” Well, no, actually, she doesn’t: “I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere. Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have. He did warn the British. I know my American history.” And the hell of it is, she was confirmed in this by a professor of History at Boston College. Dammit! There has to be some way to revoke his tenure for thought crime.

Maybe she does, and maybe I’m the Queen of New England. God only knows why Barney Frank won't return my Tweets. But it seems more comfortable to pretend that she doesn’t (and I even had to Google The Midnight Ride to help my air of supercilious snark for this article, so I definitely don't). In the same way she didn’t quite seem to know what on earth Katie Couric meant by asking what journals she reads, when she's been a bookworm since childhood. That seemed to be explained by a later Saturday Night Live skit/hit job, which lampooned the attitude of the New York elite by having a reporter volunteering for the Alaska assignment smugly asking (with his eyebrows brushing the ceiling) "Is Alaska bigger than Queens?" Or that she seemed to think that she was an experienced hand at foreign policy because the state she governed (until she quit, to act as Mama Grizzly to the Tea Parties and to write a New York Times Bestseller and a top-ranked cable series which paid her for free publicity) was sorta close to Vladimir Putin’s Russia. And you know how threatening those Ruskies are, given that the Venona Cables showed that Joe McCarthy was correct about the extent of Marxist infiltration…sh!t, let's change the subject. Almost let the cat out of the bag about the press! Well, back in the Fifties, anyhow…. You know, when the Founders were fighting the Revolutionary War… Against the French… Hence, the need to warn the British… Er, sumptin’ like that. And, I'm proud to say, that is the extent of American History I learned while persuing my doctorate...in POLITICAL SCIENCE...from WISCONSIN. Take that, trollop! You probably couldn't even get into Eau Claire or Superior. Hell, you'd probably give yourself airs for going to Ripon College.

Like I said, there will always be Sarah Palins in this world. The real questions are why they gather the attention they do, and why we would ever dream of making anyone BUT them our national leaders. There is a related flip-side to that question, as well, which goes to why Barack Obama – who is the personal, but definitely not political, antithesis of a Sarah Palin – is so revered in these same quarters, and why so much effort is made to prop himup, by hiding dubious possible dual citizenship authenticity, suppressing his college grades, covering his religion (he can still recite from memory the Muslim call to prayer without an accent, which he learned as a child), his complete lack of intelligence (David Brooks literally decided to praise him for the crease in his pants) and his use of teleprompters in making speeches, even before elementary-school children.

As it happens, I loathe Barack Obama as well. But differently, and definitely for different reasons. I despise him because he in fact black, and continuing a long proud tradition of the Democratic Party, I prefer that blacks stay on welfare and leave the voting and most of the governing (Big City Democrat machines excepted) to people like me who are University Professors, and who are the natural lords of the world. As Bill Clinton said to Ted Kennedy, "A couple of years ago, this boy would have been getting our coffee." Oops, I didn't mean to say that. Just forget it, like you forgot about the Confederacy being Democrats, and the KKK being Democrats, and Democrat Sen. Robert Byrd (who was a Kleagle and an Exalted Cyclops in the KKK), and you forgot that it was the Democrats in Congress who opposed the Civil Rights Laws, and it was Democrat Governors like George Wallace who fought racial integration, and that Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. actually was a living, breathing, REPUBLICAN. (Even though, as Ann Coulter pointed out, Thurgood Marshall hated King's tactic of using mobs rather than reason to advance his agenda.) Oh, DAMN IT! I meant to use the race card on PALIN. Now it's all overdrawn.

Speaking of cognitive dissonance, another reason I dislike Obama is that he shafted us progressives. Despite his campaign claims, he has many of the same politics of the folks on the right (at least on the surface, which is as deep as we liberals can go. We libs are governed by feelings, not logic). You could never possibly get us to admit it in public, of course, but it is a simple fact. But back to Barack. If you just look superficially at his policies – ranging from wars with Muslim countries, to global warming, to taxes, to civil liberties, and even to civil rights and health care – the real truth is that there’s hardly any difference between Obama and, say, Bush/Cheney. But if you look at the substance, he has bowed to the Saudi King; there are rumors that some of his far-left associates have helped to instigate the Middle-East riots; he has tried to force through Cap-and-Trade, has fined BP $20 billion for a slush fund, and refused to grant permits or renew them for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, while lending Billions to Brazil for them to drill for oil; he wants to raise taxes after spending untold trillions in unheard-of ways; he wants to force acceptance of Gay Marriage and abortion-on-demand; and, if I dare quote from Sarah Palin, "Death Panels." Indeed, in many respects – Afghanistan, civil liberties, immigration roundups, Guantánamo – Obama is even worse than Bush/Cheney. Not to mention Gas Prices, Unemployment, Deficit Spending, nuclear proliferation, and the War on Terror. Sure, he agreed to have bin Laden killed: over the objections of fellow Chicago Marxist Valerie Jarrett, and after stalling for 18 hours, after which the military went ahead and DARED him to object: threatening that they'd tell the world that we had bin Laden in our crosshairs, and he refused to do anything. And he thinks he's going to get re-elected on that?

Which makes it so remarkable that folks on the right dislike him so. They’re far too scared-stupid to realize it, of course, but this guy has the makings of the next Jimmy Dhimmi Carter -- which makes him the perfect lead in to the next Ronald Reagan, Sarah Palin. Obama's politics are largely Peanut-boy's politics, from energy rationing to inflation to a weak military to cozying up to dictators to being b!tch-slapped by Iran, all the way to stagflation, an energy crisis, and attempted unilateral disarmament. And all with the same dazzling smile with sixty-eight perfect teeth. So what gives? Why the hatred toward Obama by the same people who adore Palin?

Fundamentally, I suspect it has to do with the implicit distrust of his lack of character, shown by his recklessness and greed. When the Bush/Cheney Cowboy Show was in town, all their 'worst' tendencies could be expressed and not only was it not frowned upon, hell, it was national policy. Hunting as a pastime, and in earnest?!! Good God, didn't they know that John Kerry's (who by the way served himself in Viet Nam, and still hasn't released his SF180) line "Can I get me a huntin' license here?" was for the rubes? And George Bush, instead of going to Martha's Vineyard like a sensible person (or at least Kennebunkport like his father -- they're both Yale men and OUGHT to know better) -- instead, he went to rural TEXAS, where there are no decent restaurants, no theatre companies, no gay bars. And he cleared BRUSH, performing hard manual labor, like a mere PEASANT. Like Sarah Palin field-dressing a moose! And how cruel to shoot a moose for food. How much more humane to get your free-range, organically processed meats (if you must indulge in carnivorism) off the shelf at Whole Foods with your Arugula, the way Gaia intended.

And speaking of Whole Foods, did I mention money? The funny thing (hah-freakin’-hah) is that Obama (despite his being a community organizer) had a couple of books ghost-written (rumor has it by Weather Underground fugitive William Ayers, who praised domestic terrorist bombings in a beautiful article in the New York Times, which would have won a Pulitzer and rehabilitated him completely in the cocktail-party-set, except it had the execrable misfortune to have been published the day before 9-11), which made him positively MILLIONS. And he showed how deftly he was able to assume the mantle of the common man, by how he went to Des Moines, Iowa--I'm surprised they were able to find it for him, but I guess they used GPS--and commiserated with the voters at a Hy-Vee (what's THAT?) by observing that "arugula sure is expensive". So you can see, that taking it all in all, when you get past it Obama and Palin are nearly identical in all respects, except that he is merely pretending to be a man of the people, when he is (despite that little matter of being a biracial child of a single mother and that little Muslim issue) far above them, having gone to Columbia and Harvard on someone else's money, although we still don't know whose, whereas she really barely made it through Idaho State or some ridiculous blue-collar "college" while working her way through by her own effort. And that really flames people like me who are none of those things. Like I said, I'm a professor at Hofstra. In New York, you know. And I went to a REAL public school, thus showing my own noblesse oblige: Wisconsin.

I think I especially secretly hate Obama not so much because he’s black or he’s a Muslim or a puppet or immature. It’s all those things, to be sure. But I think what really drives me crazy comparing him to Palin is ultimately the air of settled, earned responsibility and self-confidence she projects, compared to his air of entitlement combined with a childish panic just underneath the surface...have you ever noticed how his nose is ALWAYS in the air? And unlike Bush or Palin, Obama is utterly afraid of getting caught being revealed as less than intelligent in public. I think that's why he relies on the teleprompter like a security blanket -- when you have overcome adversity, like Bush (who was a fighter pilot, after all, despite the forged CBS Dan Rather memos), or like Palin -- who has been through enough persecution in the last three years to drive Obama into a padded cell, who has a special-needs child, and has borne FIVE children--I think that alone incenses people on the right, that Obama has an air of superiority, when in fact he is a shadowy figure who appeared seemingly from nowhere, was elected to the US Senate over a popular figure when somehow his opponent's SEALED divorce records suddenly were made public right during the campaign, who was advertised as being ready to be President because (literally!) "he had run a Presidential campaign" -- and still he has a pathological, narcissistic need to be worshiped.

I think that alone drives people on the lazy, greedy left (parasitical professors, union thugs, welfare queens, communist agitators, script kiddies still living in their mother's basement and now, on her health care, too, at age 25) absolutely ape-sh*t in response, because it sorta shoves in their faces their own gross irresponsibility, and nobody likes being reminded of the harm they’ve caused to others (not to mention that such avoidance is, itself, a powerful form of laziness and greed).

Have I mentioned "laziness and greed enough"? Is my self-loathing covered up well enough by clever misdirection and projection yet?

Put it all together and ours is the strangest political moment, perhaps in human history. I say that not only because the tropes in our public discourse are so bizarre, but because, above all, the stakes are now so high. We live at a time when those who are the most angry and agitated in their politics are the very ones who have driven the country (and, in many respects, the world) off the cliff. Just look at the Unions in New Jersey calling their opponents "Nazis" FROM A PODIUM, ON CAMERA. Just for being forced to pay maybe 5% or their own health insurance premiums. Or the spoiled rioters in Madison, Wisconsin, who bicycle-locked themselves to pillars in the State Legislature. And yet they endlessly preach to us about responsibility and morality.

There are no depths to the levels of duplicity and hypocrisy plumbed here, and there is no limit to the destruction being contemplated. Think about the damage that already litters the landscape, and the lies necessary to wipe away the fingerprints upon it. Think about the lies behind Cap and Trade, behind TARP, behind the Stimulus bills, behind Acorn. Think about the new START Treaty, as close to unilateral disarmament as Obama could get without risking impeachment.

What’s worse than dictating to everyone else what their sexual practices must be, while simultaneously engaging in every manner of debauchery themselves? Consider Anthony "Oscar Liar" Weiner, who after knowingly sending pornographic photos of himself to complete strangers online, lied through his teeth about it, first by claiming "hacking" and them blaming a conservative blogger -- all the time knowing perfectly well none of it was true.

Perhaps it would be ranting endlessly about the virtues of the “free market” while constantly shilling for all forms of corporate welfare and bleeding the country dry. Or having a tax fraud heading up the Department of the Treasury.

Or perhaps it is selling massive tax cuts for the wealthy on the premise that such giveaways would provide us a great economy, and then delivering the Great Recession instead. I could mention the gigantic slush funds behind Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, or the tax status of General Electric (who was on a jobs panel with Obama, and who laughed out loud when Obama quipped "I guess those shovel-ready jobs weren't as shovel-ready as we thought." Way to show true solidarity with those who have been on unemployment for two years or more under YOUR administration, and have now lost their house. "Fundamentally changing the United States of America" indeed!

Or maybe it’s exploding the national debt to pay for ACORN and bureaucracies and unions and corporate welfare to Wall Street donors and a giant ‘education’ establishment which performs no real service but Marxist indoctrination (poorly!), and then demanding that seniors and the poor and the middle class be kicked to the gutter (and Grandma get sent to a Death Panel) because there is no money left to pay for social programs.

Or perhaps instead it would be plunging the country into a war that claimed as many as a million lives, all on the basis of lies. Oh, wait. That's why Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize, right? Because Libya isn't really a "War" but a "Peace". And ...I have it! THAT'S why Islam is the "Religion of Peace" because under Obama,

WAR IS PEACE.

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY.

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

Oh, that's been done already? Twenty-seven years ago, you say? (Brightening.) Oh, *that's* right. Reagan! I get it!

Or maybe lying about and ignoring global warming, the planet’s greatest threat ever, in order to protect the short-term profits of a handful of Brit royals and crazed sex poodles and bureaucrats who set up "carbon credits" even though the underlying data is shown to have been falsified, and REAL scientists now predict based on direct observations of the Sun itself, corroborated by data back-tested for hundreds of years, that we are likely heading into a solar minimum, with a possible Maunder minimum, and dire consequences for food supplies for the entire planet.

These are among the worst gifts of "Progressivism", whose greatest enemy in our time is Sarah Palin. She is the ultimate Politician with a Servant's Heart, herself. Even though we liberals seek to portray her as a cheap and rather harmless latter day Joe McCarthy, she may actually be an Esther for our times, playing as pivotal a role as Meriadoc Brandybuck in slaying the Witch-King who sought to enslave the last stronghold of free men under the thralldom of the Dark Lord (Soros).

But her politics are our national cure – Palinitis – and we have a lifesaving dose.

It is the politics of security.

It’s the politics of love.

It’s the politics of honesty and sunlight (as her term in Alaska proved).

It’s the politics of genuineness (as her own emails proved).

It’s the politics of hard work.

It’s the politics of personal responsibility instead of sponging.

It’s the politics of conquering ignorance with true knowledge.

It’s the politics of restoration (as her bus tour said).

But, most of all, it is the politics of generosity -- to set people free from dependence, into self-reliance "If the Son make you Free, you shall be free indeed".

Here you go GL. The week in a wrap...

It has been an interesting couple of days. The reality once again collides with the rhetoric as Mrs Bachmann is looking more and more like someone who really doesn't believe in a smaller, less intrusive government. She only wants one that advocates on behalf of her positions.

Tea Party People, you have been punked.

Aw right, Professor, that was a great essay! ... Now rewrite it, bring it to 300 words max, and shorten your sentences to no more than nine words on average. {Hey, that’s what you professors did/do to me, Professor, you need the same back slap!] BTW, keep the jewels coming, Whiskers.

Dude- you should let the pressure out of the steam kettle more often! A lot to distill there...

But, you are right on. If I could offer a synopsis-

1.The Founders had a great Divinely-inspired Plan.

2. We have radically departed from above Plan.

3. We need to return to the Plan or face certain destruction.

4. Sarah Palin has been annointed by God to return this nation to favor with God.

5. She is hated by the enemies of God.

6. We have one last chance to right this ship.

I have been saying this for a while now. God Bless America.

Thumb nail - She has an opinion about what local schools should teach kids (wants intelligent design taught), but refuses to make any statement about state mandates (Mittcare).

I am beginning to think she is something of a nut.

There are around 1000 folks at the Right Online conference watching The Undefeated right now. I think it is about to wind up. Dan Riehl is tweeting about it and I guess they are pretty impressed.

She's playing Saruman to Mitt's Sauron.

Hoping to ride the storm by holding her links to DC insiders / RINOs, yet maintain her independence, and appeal to the religious members of the Tea Party.

But Sarah's popularity is as it were a veritable RING of power.

And it shall NOT be cast into the fire, nor be sullied by the Ruling Ring forged in the land of Chicago at the hand of the Dark Lord Soros...(the Valar, and Eru, willing).

(BTW you might enjoy this.)

Cheers!
