PHOENIX Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is urging his uniformed deputies to use caution when eating at McDonalds restaurants following an alleged incident in Mesa.
The Sheriffs Office says a uniformed deputy was verbally harassed in Spanish by McDonalds food handlers Thursday.
The deputy says both he and Arpaio were accused of being racists.
The deputy confronted the workers in Spanish about their remarks and refused to accept his food order as a precaution.
Arpaio says the restaurant was targeted for an employer sanctions investigation last March when four people were arrested for identification theft.
The franchisee of the Mesa McDonalds says he takes the allegations seriously and is gathering facts.
Richard Coulston says McDonalds has a zero tolerance policy against discrimination of any kind and his restaurant is no exception.
Not to get to picky here but the restaurant appears to be in Phoenix, not Mesa.
Several McD’s here had so many illegal aliens they literally had no one to take proper orders because no one spoke English. They had several that tried for a few days but it was a mess. They finally moved a few English speaking people from other establishments to those two. I like to get a McMuffin and an orange juice on occassion but that episode changed my mind. I couldn’t believe I had to speak s*l*o*w*l*y and repeat myself 5 times just to get two basic menu items.
“. They are a top rate first class organization. “
I beg pardon, but they are weasles that hire illegal aliens. That is hardly a top notch organization. They are profit motivated but they hardly provide top notch service or operate top notch restaurants. I know the State Department of Public Health and Environment folks and McD’s doesn’t score any better than anyone else and often has less than desireable surveys.
Where does it say that? Is there another story?
I have left almost every McDonalds in our area after telling them I won’t be back. I pull up to the drive thru window and I can’t understand a word they are saying to me. If they are speaking English I sure as heck can’t understand it.
I wait in line, pull up to the window and ask for the manager, then I tell them exactly why I won’t be back and drive off without my order.
Screw em.
If I lived in Fort Worth, I don’t think I could complete eliminate Whataburger from my diet. :( You’re a stronger man than I.
el elegir hablar inglés no significa que no puedo entender español.
son muy estúpidos
Oy!
Another article lists the manager. When I looked up the manager he was at a store outside of Mesa in Phoenix. Any reporter could have cross checked like I just did, but such days of verification are long gone I suppose.
It's not about rights. These people are criminals. Tell a drug dealer he can't hang out on a corner selling drugs and he'll act the same way.
I’ve always called them chicken heads, even back when I used to eat there. I haven’t eaten in McDonalds more than once a year in the last 30 years. And then only when on the road out of town for breakfast.
Sierra Vista is about as far from Phoenix as you you get and still be in Arizona. That’s why I looked it up.
In 1981, I went to a McD’s in Key West and even the managers didn’t speak English. Had to get a fellow customer to translate for me.
Had the same issue in Key West in 1981.
I stopped going to McD’s three years ago.
I once threw down a half eaten big mac...My German Shepard walked up, sniffed if and walked away..

That was some serious legwork there, Dawg....
Mesa and Phoenix aren’t all that close. Tempe is between them. I’d like to know exactly which McD’s it is, so if I ever develop a need to go there, I’ll skip that particular joint. I don’t eat there much at all, but, as another FReeper mentioned, the coffee’s good.
Will Arizona be part of the USA as we know it in 25 years?
I hit one like that in Texas a few years ago. I was thankful that the shift manager was bilingual. Everyone else didn’t have a clue when I said, “Two Big Macs, two fries and two medium drinks”. They all looked at me like a pig looking at a wrist watch.
