I’d never had a hamburger with chili sauce on it until we moved to N. Carolina years ago. I can’t remember if they put cheese on it or not, but it was very good.

Waylon even took his wife here for their 20th Wedding Anniversary: Long ago we saw Waylon in concert (quite the entertainer), also Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty. All are very fond memories (and a few photos in my album). It was a different world then.....

If you’re ever in Minneapolis, a jucy lucy is a must-try. (no that is not a mispelling)
A lucy is two burger patties stuffed with molten cheese that’ll burn your mouth if you don’t bite into it carefully. There’s always a hot debate among Minneapolitans about where the lucy originated, but I’ll always go with Matt’s Bar. I lived not far from the place for many years and enjoyed countless jucy lucy’s. They’re great with a cold Grain Belt tap beer and a basket of crispy fries.

There's a regional chain in the inland northwest called Taco Time that carries a taco burger like what you describe. They also were in the Portland area when we traveled through. The best thing about the chain IMHO was the hot sauce. I would buy that by the gallon if possible.

Camp Bowie in Ft. Worth ( the original) if its still there..
Also one in Southlake.
They don’t mess around. You won’t have room for fries or onion rings ( hand made onion rings )

The Buckhorn Tavern is right down the road (about 100 yards) from the Owl Bar.

Yup. In-n-Out Animal Double Double (Not on the menu but they will make it if you ask) is my all time favorite. There was an In-n-Out across the street from my High School in SoCal back in 1962. They’ve spread out since then into a fairly large chain but I find myself again in Clifornia and had the opportunity to have one recently for the first time in a lot of years. I am pleased to find that they are as good as ever.
I was surprised to see that the menu board has not changed in all these years:
Hamburger
Cheese Burger
Double-Double
Fries
Pepsi
Chocolate, Vanilla or Strawberry shakes
That’s all. And that is enough.
