Tangled, Disney's take on the folk tale classic Rapunzel, hearkens back to the hayday of Disney pictures. A princess, in dire straights. A handsome lead. And an evil witch/stepmother/etc.
There is nothing new here. This movie could have been written 50 years ago by Walt Disney himself.
But that doesn't mean that it doesn't do a fantastic job at what it is trying to do. This is the classic Disney fare for the young princesses in your family. It has been a long time since Disney has had a successful movie geared specifically for girls (Up, Toy Story series, and Wall-E are fantastic movies, but not exactly the stories little girls dream about). And the singing, dancing, and love story are enough that every little girl will want to be Rapunzel for Christmas.

It is.
I don't even know what's in second place.
Justified (FX) is a LOT better.
Leverage (TNT) is a LOT better.
Sons of Anarchy (FX) is a little better.
Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven (Syfy) are as good as Walking Dead.
At first I thought this would be some variant of a Aarne-Thompson type 310, The Maiden in The Tower.
Went to see it with the grandkids. Daughter bought the popcorn, how could I say no?
My goodness. Excellent production, music was wonderful. The story full of surprises, and unlike the first edition of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Rapunzel didn’t get knocked up (a relief, to say the least)
Overall, worth the money to see, OK for younger (5 is about as young as I would get) kids and the singing performeance by Mandy Moore (Rapunzel) was remarkable.
Cute movie.
Heck, we didn't feel safe even in a "cartoon" New Orleans...waited for video -lol!
That show's a joke...
Leverage (TNT) is a LOT better.
Kind of fun but they win way too easily and everything just falls into place to smoothly from the few eps I've seen.
Justified (FX) is a LOT better.
Never seen it.
Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven (Syfy) are as good as Walking Dead.
You are right about Eureka. I forgot about that one. It's actually my favorite. WH13 has just about lost me because for some unknown reason they decided to make the show about Claudia and Haven bored me (but I think King is one of the most over rated writers so that clouds my viewing).
JMHO.
P-Frog just wasn’t commercially successful. Not a flop, but not a success either.
Necro-bump to say I loved this film after my wife dragged me to see it. Really got past my this-is-just-a-singing-princess-movie defenses by focusing on the GUYS’ viewpoint at the outset.
